anyone carry different broadheads when hunting?
« on: January 16, 2017, 07:04:00 PM »
I used to have this idea in my head that a quiver of hunting arrows should all have matching broadheads from the same manufacturer. Minus a judo or other stumper maybe it looks nice and orderly. But which Broadhead to carry? Like most of you i have several brands stashed away. Heck plenty of you have way more than I do! And with adapters it isn't hard to adjust point weight to match them up either. But I've slowly realized that theres no Broadhead police to keep me from mixing and matching tuned heads from several makers and bringing a snuffer, a zwickey, and a Simmons along on the same day. That way I can shoot what I want as the feeling strikes! As long as its tuned and sharp it shouldn't matter! Anyone else have an attention deficit quiver? Pics? Can you tell I'm not getting out in the woods enough and am starting to loose it?!

I do when deer hunting. I carry a Grizzly in case I climb a tight spot with a close shot. I also may have a woodsman or Simmons as well.

I carry  Zwickeys (all types) or Gizzlys.  Have killed game with all types.  Generally the first out of the quiver is a grizzly.

I do it quite often.  Zwickey deltas, STOS two blades and Abowyer Brown Bears or Wapitis. I use inserts and adaptors to get the same up front weight across all the arrows so they all shoot the same.

If you arrows are well tuned, and all the heads are the same weight, it should not make much difference at all.

I hunt mostly with 150gr German Kinetic heads. I use the 1 1/8" wide ones for bigger animals that I want/need more penetration, and the 1 1/2" wide ones for deer size and smaller game. After losing a couple of those expensive heads in hogs, I decided to try some cheaper alternatives, and now carry Magnus Stinger 150gr and Wasp Traditional 150gr for that. I have killed critters with all three, and really can't tell a lethality difference.

I mix. I use Tuffheads,Grizzlys, and Stos all 3, not in any certain order and sometimes I carry all of any one of those. Tuned arrows dont matter. However I do have in my mind a plan, just for my preference. Tuffheads for close shots, Grizzly for farther shots, and Stos for turkeys. Next year I may mix it up again.

Wesel Woodsmans and Bear Razorheads . One of the deer I shot last year I had to shoot more than once and I used both kinds of heads.

My woods are tuned for 200 gr.  Primary head is a Grizzly Kodiak, but I also carry Grizzly Instincts and VPA 1 1/4" Terminators.

No, but I think I'm going to. I plan to try the Simmons Treesharks for the next season. But will probably keep a grizzly in the quiver for a set up that gives me a  close range frontal shot.

I may, at times, depending on anticipated situations. And have successfully switched arrows to address a specific quarry approaching my set.

I carried two grizzlies single bevel and two woodsman elites this year.

Nearly all the time.  Sometimes for no reason, other times have an arrow for killing raccoons, other times a particular arrow and broadhead in case I run into a nasty boar, and sometimes so I can mix and match arrows with different color fletching so it doesn't stand out much.
