I still remember going to the toy store and being given the choice between a toy helicopter and a toy bow with suction cup arrows. I picked the bow and it may still be in the rafters in my parents basement. I don't know what happened to the original string but I remember I would have to make a new one every time I took it out to shoot with the real arrows I progressed to. The homemade strings kept breaking! I still had it when a friend gave me a red bear kids recurve in 5th grade. My nephew has that bow now!

Mine was a Ben Pearson lemonwood longbow, 30# in 1955. It disappeared decades ago but a friend gave me a very similar Ben Pearson.

First bow clone.

My first real traditional bow was a Big horn 58# recurve.  I bought in in 1995!  I shot my first deer with, and I still have it.

I got my first real traditional bow when I was 11 years old. It was a rudder bows archery hickory selfbow. 40# @26" It was a great bow and I put more arrows through it than I can recall. I even began to make my own arrows from poplar dowels from hardware stores. Only took the dowels i could straighten and with the right grain. It worked well for a kid with no money and loosing them didn't hurt as bad lol. Sadly I broke it a few years later drawing it back way beyond its listed draw length.

Still have my Martin X-200 Recurve. Killed my first deer with a bow with it. It was a good starter bow. I think I paid $150 for it.

I sold my first real recurve. A 1970s bear grizzly. I regret it but oh well. It's just a bow.

My first was a stick from the lilac bush, shot it for two years, from age four to age six, we burned it when it broke.  My next one was a flat fiberglass thing.  My third one was a pheasant and rabbit killer. My third was a billet cut Hill style sinew backed ash from a strip that was that was discharged from the neighbors very tall and very straight ash.  That strip made a 35 pound bow for me and a 55 pound bow for the guy that made them both.  He shot a nice 8 pointer with his that year.  That is the one that I wish I still had, it was deadly and had many years of small game kills built into it.

Still have my first real bow. Indian Archery lemonwood. I do not shoot it, have not since I got a Pearson Pinto in 62. It is my kids bow and consider it that.  The Pearson went south while I was in Marines. Got a Bear SK in 72 which I shoot about once a year. It's OK but just not as zippy as my newer Bears.

Still have my first real bow. It is a hickory bow from Oklahoma that was made for my Dad when he was a kid. I shot it until I was about twelve or so. It is a wall hanger now because I'm afraid the grand kids could break it. It must be about 90 years old now.

My first was a 60" Griffin longbow by John McCullough. Picked it up on my first trip to Denton Hill. It's also one of the few bows I regret selling.

Mine blew out of the back of my truck hence the handle I chose when I joined the gang.  I have since found an old pearson just like it that is shootable, but the original broken bow is still hanging in my Dad's den back home.
