Dick Wightman's visit to Howard Hill Archery
« on: February 14, 2017, 08:13:00 PM »
I stumbled across this a few weeks back, and thought that it was worth sharing again.  It is a fascinating report, complete with photos, of a visit which Dick Wightman took to Howard Hill Archery some years back.

Does anyone know what year this was?

- Hill Big 5 ASL, 66", 45# @ 27"
- Hill Halfbreed ASL, 66", 45# @ 27"

- Cabela's Warden 62" recurves:

-- 50# @ 28"

Proverbs 16:3
"Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will be established."

Excellent.  Thank you much for this, Deno.

It's a great site to read about Hill bows and pictures. I thought the gravestone should've had a longbow on it but great to see.  I did see him shoot in person at a screening of "Tembo" in a local theater in 1961.  Took off a day from High School.  From then on I was a Hill fan and longbow guy. He was an amazing showman.  I shot a longbow ever since but it took me 'til two years ago to get my first Howard Hill...    :archer:

Frank, thanks for revisiting and posting Dick's information.  He did a lot of research. Good luck with your new bow.  Deano, I will contact you.

I heard from Steve Turey that the graves are in danger from erosion currently.  Poor Libba must have been about to slide down the hill!  Steve said that he might try to organize some sort of collection to get things fixed up if he could...and would let me know.

Wow, that must have been special to see him shoot in person.

Anything noteworthy that you remember about it?

A good friend in school was an archery nut like me when most guys where joining the rifle club. He and I hit the woods often.
He told me about the movie and that there would be a shooting exhibition afterward.  Well I was excited to bug out of school and see the movie in that order probably.  The movie was OK, but the speed and confidence of Hill's shooting was more memorable. Not until I joined these internet archery forums did I realize that I had seen an archery icon.
