Received word from the Wisconsin DNR this evening that I drew a Wisconsin Unit B bear harvest tag for this fall. Took me 11 years to get it. Looking forward to scouting, baiting, setting up stands and checking trail cams. That's work but also lots of fun.
Hope to have a story for TradArchers' World magazine in the Fall or Winter issue. Wish me luck!

Congrats Tom.  Good luck.  Seems to be a very healthy population of bears these days.

And the adventure begins...Good luck. It will be awesome.

As a suggestion, as you think about the story line for your mag, might I prod you tell the story beginning to end, though you are likely way ahead of me there.

I offer this because Wisconsin has some unique ways of bear hunting and others may enjoy the challenges and nuances it offers.

I had a great reminder of that last year when I gave my tag away (another WI nuance) last year to an 11 year old girl.  Her and her dad both did their first bear hunter together - soup to nuts.  She was successful and killed the "families" first bear with her dad by her side.  Along the road, I got regular updates of baiting, trail pics etc. and the process infected the whole extended family.

And don't worry too much about the dogs going first.  They run the dogs all summer anyway, and just cause they cannot shoot them doesn't mean the bears aren't hunted early and often.  I wish they would change that but it is what it is - yet another nuance.
