« on: March 02, 2017, 01:09:00 PM »
I am thinking about getting a new glove this year I am currently using American leathers with nylon finger stalls I previously used a fire glove but thinking of switching to a deer skin or all leather  is there any pros and cons to these gloves thanks

Yes, there certainly are tradeoffs. It could be a long response, but a couple of points, for a start: A softer leather glove, like the various deerskin or kangaroo skin, will generally be softer, giving you better "feel" of the string, and what I think of as string/nock control. Better sensitivity and dexterity for other associated tasks as well. That feel also means less "protection" from the string. Also may tend to have a little less crisp release, and may be more prone to grooving. (All relative to the A.L> nylon tipped glove you shoot, which likely has plastic inserts also). The thinner, softer leathers will also give you a better feel for your anchor point.

A heavier/stiffer, all leather glove - and they vary within this category too - is sort of in between. More protection, may have a little cleaner release, more protection. A little less feedback on your anchor. Slower to groove than the softer leathers.

Just to get things rolling; I'm sure more responses will start showing up soon.

I prefer the softer deerskin.  Much smoother release and using a back quiver like I do, much easier feeling for indexes when drawing and nocking arrows without looking.

I really like the Bearpaw Black Glove. Not leather, all nylon, and can be machine washed.

I think you will regret going to a thinner glove.  I base my opinion on doing the same thing that you are contemplating. I went back and am staying with the American Leather glove.

I've abused my fingers for too many years, so I like a thicker glove also.

I have an older Bearpaw either goat or deerskin glove. Love it. Very good thickness but gives a great feel of the string and my face for anchor. Looks like the one for sale at Lancasters, not the one at 3 Rivers. It's tan with tan finger tips.

I also have one with nylon fingertips. It doesn't give me the same feel for the string, don't like it as much.

I shoot a lot and my arthritis kicks in, plus my fingers get sore. So I like my American leather gloves or my Black Widow tab.

What about the newer glove from American Leather. A Crossover made out of kangaroo I think.

I like my Crossover made out of kangaroo. There are plastic inserts on the fingers this does help when shooting a heavy bow. All though the kangaroo leather is thin it is very tough and will last a long time.
Take the long way around.
