Our 6 yr. old grandson heard there was a roadkill skunk up the road and the first thing he said was "papa can I shoot that?"

That's  my boy!!  LOL

I said no you wouldn't want your arrows back.

Friend

Excellent....

Must confess that I shot one with a large snuffer. He sprayed as soon as he was motrally hit and I immediately evacuated the area. Didn't retrieve my arrow for three days. Fortunately, the arrow just needed to be normally cleaned up.

Hey Friend, I learned a hard lesson about skunks and judo points myself.  Skunks are "new" to my hunting area and I just couldn't resist when I eased up on one.  Long story short, I never did recover the arrow or the judo point but I did gain a lot of respect for them .

Good one. Before opening the thread couldn't help but wonder who the hell would test penetration on a skunk. And a dead one to boot. I imagine there will be a lot of interest in this one.

He's going with us to AZ next winter to hunt small game and is real interested if his bow will do  the job.  A dead skunk sounded good to him.

He will be shooting heavier limbs next year anyway as he is already overdrawing his new ones from Dec.

I speak from experience when I say you wouldn't want that arrow back. LOL

Mike your thread title caused me to have a flash back to something from years ago.

It was something like "Test on a dead cow"...it was hilariously funny.

Thanks for sharing and also for the trip down memory lane.

God bless,Mudd

This one died without spraying. They are a beautiful critter and I have always thought that I would like to have one for a pet.

We had one for a pet when I was a kid. Our Amish friends found some that were the right age to take to a Vet to have the scent sacs removed. It was pretty cool, kind of like a cat. It bonded with my Mom since she was home all day and fed it. It would hang out in the kitchen rubbing itself on her legs just like a cat. It was beautiful and it's fur was thicker than a cats. When we got company, especially with noisy kids, it would head to our bedroom and hide under our beds. We'd have to drag her out since everyone wanted to visit with her. We named her Willy.

When I worked a veterinary practice in West Virginia, I would be sent out into the back country with a station wagon and two young lady helpers...I was young then too! Anyway someone would go around the week before and tack up a sign on a telephone pole saying the Vet was coming.  We'd drive into town and there would be a crowd waiting.  My exam table was the back gate of the station wagon and I'd see anything they brought mostly coonhounds but raccoons, bobcats and SKUNKS. I would have to descent baby skunks.  It sure made you a good surgeon.  If you nicked the sack...not a pleasant experience!

I was gonna say...that would be one arrow I'd have to write off!
