Homemade arrow saw (Pics)
« on: October 31, 2007, 11:46:00 AM »
Well, after my garage sale, I realized I had an extra dremel tool, and I needed an arrow saw, but was hesitent on spending close to $200 on a saw thats going to see limited use.

So I started this early winter project of constructing my own saw. It cost me a total of $42 not including the dremel.

I went to homedepot for all my needs. I picked up a 1x8x48 and 2x2x12 of red oak along with some angled strap metal and U bolts for the dremel. And the Jorgenson wood clamp. I scoured the house for everything else. I.E. Walnut stain, polyurathane, plastic caps for feet, bolts, yard stick, etc....

The hardest part to find was the contured hard foam that I have been holding onto for 8 years, and knew would come in handy one of these days. Ide never let my wife throw them away no matter how hard she tried. We moved 3 times since I found the stuff, and each time it was a battle to keep it. "I told you Ide use it, honey!" LoL
The foam was from linked 40mm grenades from the MK19 ammo cans. Used to separate the rounds during shippment.  :D

It works very well, and I even glued an Easton axis arrow file to the end to finish off the arrows after they are cut.

PRETTY NEAT HOW DO YOU COMPENSATE FOR THE ANGLE OF THE HANDLE ON THE CLAMP, LOOKS LIKE IT WOULD MAKE IT CUT SHAFT AT A SLIGHT ANGLE...SORRY FOR CAPS.

Honestly,

I didnt measure twice before cutting, and it turned out that way. But it must be magic that makes it work, cause its cuts straight!

Ive gut a dozen arrows already, and checked them on my arrow squaring device, and they are straight. I cut from the top of the cut off wheel, and rotate the arrow while moving it down on the blade. I guess the angle of bringing it down compensates for the side angle.

Also, the hole in the handle allows for a little adjustment angle.
