Things have been tough here in SC so far. There is a lot of live hen competition right now. I'm hoping these hens get bred soon so that they will give my calling and avion x a chance!

Season opens this Saturday, but I don't think I will be able to get out there after them yet?

Good luck everyone.

One again (2 years in a row) totally forgot to send in for a turkey permit!  I feel awful.  Funny how life has a way of changing with a young family: 2 1/2 year old and a 10mo old.

Never dawned on me until driving home Thursday last week when I saw a big tom strutting in the field with a handful of others surrounding him.  Then I had about a 10 minute talk with myself about how I can't wait to go turkey hunting this year.  Got home and mentioned it to my wife and she replied "When's the deadline for permits?  It's already end of March".  I think I got the words, "Well turkey season isn't until....."  When I realized crap - that's in about 2 weeks.

Needless to say, I already have about 5 locations that have reminders to BUY TURKEY PERMIT 2018!!!!

Good luck to all getting out after the gobblers - My favorite game to eat.  (insert 425 degree oil, wet battered chunks of turkey and a few handfuls of morels)

The gobblers were going nuts in the fencerow out back this morning. Saw 27 in my neighbors field yesterday. Actually been hearing gobbles since early February. Still say PA.spring season starts way too late.

Update. This morning as I was heading to the farmers market, I rounded a bend in the road about a half mile from the house and had to stop for a flock in the road. Two gobblers were going toe to toe on the yellow line - full strut! They finally deflated and mosied off with the hens, but not before one turned and gave me a defiant ear-splitting gobble. Just you wait...

None out here last Sunday.  All was quiet -- not a single gobble.  Weather went a little odd, too but maybe it's just coincidence.  Heading back next week with my son.  But we only give it about 45 minutes a day of "serious" hunting.  He's only 8, after all.  So we spend most of the day looking for salamanders, throwing rocks, etc.  Hopefully, we'll pick up a few tips on location & such while we're out and I can come back the next weekend with a more serious approach.

Went out for a hike/stump shoot yesterday, had two gobblers in the creek bottom going at it.
    Season opens here Monday.

I'm headed out to begin my scouting tomorrow morning. Here in northern Illinois the birds are still in winter flocks but they are starting to break up a bit.

We can't get after them til the 17th, but I just saw several strutters off the side of the road about 30 minutes ago. Can't wait to go after them.

Again, not today. I heard some gobbles and a few hens were talking. Unfortunately, nothing came my way.

Been watching several gobblers from my front porch. Seen 3 long beards strutting for 7 hens yesterday morning and 2 smaller toms following another hen in the afternoon. Our season also begins on the 17th.

I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!
