Moose hunts
« on: March 30, 2017, 09:27:00 AM »
My wife and I are wanting to go on a moose hunt in Canada in a few years. There are a few stipulations though....1.we need to be able to drive there. 2. It obviously needs to be a place that caters to bowhunters. 3. It needs to be somewhat affordable.(maybe under 7000 per person).

If anybody has any recommendations please let me know. Thanks.

I will be following this thread closely as my wife and I are planning on going either next year or the year after. As of right now we are looking at Tuckamore Lodge in New Founland, however we are still looking!

Alberta.

Price can be just under $7,000.  Bulls can average larger than NE Canada moose.

My info is a result of research I was doing about 4 years ago. Long story short, friend and hunting buddy and I paid $3,000 deposits (each). He developed cancer, hunt postponed a year. Then his shoulder quit working the next year and we lost our deposits.

I have an invite to hunt moose in Alberta in 2018 if I accept it.

There was a place that I found for a little under 6000 per person, but now I can't find it again. Can't remember the dang name of it. I'll keep looking. Thanks for the info so far.

the Outfitter I almost hunted with was Southpawoutfitters in Alberta. Very nice folks and have won conservation/outfitting awards for their dedication to the resource, hunting, and integrity.

While I didn't get to hunt with them, I have 100% trust in their operation.

They waited two years for my buddy to get healthy enough to make our hunt.  They suffered expenses preparing for us.

There's was a $6,000 hunt about 4 years ago. Don't know now.

If going to NFD, you can drive and take the ferry from the mainland.   If you go there, I suggest finding an outfitter that flies you into their lodge to lessen competition from the local folks.  It can rain a lot and the winds can be nasty.  Do homework to find a guide that will work with bow hunters .  Hard to say what prices will be in a few years but a lot of lodges are under that range if one guide for 2 hunters

I second NF. It has more moose per square mile than anywhere. Also, you will probably not find a cheaper place to hunt moose. As said above, you can drive(we did) and take the ferry from NS.
Time spent alone in the woods puts you closer to God.

"Can't" never accomplished anything.

This is the place we are looking at, my wife being a great Archer is not a hunter so I was looking for a place where she could relax in style while I was out chasing moose. If if was just me I would not need all the luxuries but so far this seem to be our front runner for our outfitter?

I've hunted Newfoundland for moose and Caribou 16 times. Easy to drive to, roads are much better than 20 years ago. Agree that fly in camps are the best. Do your homework and talk to references, although rare in NF, you can get burned. I've shot 14 moose (Gun) the country is challenging for an archer. I know some good outfitters that have had success with bow hunters.

Check out White River Air in Ontario. Very affordable moose hunts and archery is their specialty. I've been archery moose hunting with these guys for many years now and the success rate is higher than most. We've taken 30 archery bulls in last 15 years and we had two skunked years in the 15 due to hot weather. So that's 30 in 13 for just our group. Not many places can provide numbers like that. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions or want to chat.
