Certified Archery Instructors?

I was wondering how many among us are certified archery Instructors?  I am planning to get accredited, so I can be able to teach in a school and/or club program.

I'm NASP certified, but honestly that's an easy one to get.  I hope to get other certs in the future to help me along.  Some courses, like a Rod Jenkins clinic, may not come with a certificate but will teach you more.

NASP® BAIT - 24 Hours 1,500 certified
NASP® BAIT Specialist - 12-18 months as BAIT and recommendation. 140 certified

No certification is better for teaching developmental youth archery or have taught more youth than NASP®. A fact but coming from me, highly biased.

I've taught basic archery to kids for years, but only have a level 1 certification.  At that level, they basically teach you how to run a course safely, and a few fundamentals about the equipment and archery form.

I don't know that some of the well known instructors like Rod Jenkins or Rick Welch have ever attended an instructor's class, but then they probably don't teach groups of kids.

I'll add, if you want to work in a "program" like NASP, you NEED the BAI; 4H, Centershot, Scouts all seem to have their own specific training that is required to work in their programs.  The USA Archery instructor/coaching certifications are for things like JOAD, Adult achievement, etc.

You need to have an idea of what program you want to work in.

I like many of you, have introduced and taught archery and bowhunting to people.  I am a hunter ed instructor, but was just thinking of getting the actual certification for teaching to kids and youth for YMCA, schools and other organizations.  I have attended many quality shooting clinics but the accreditation is what is needed to be "legit"

basic instruction on safety, form and shot process. The youngsters need those things to get started-some will stay with it, many move on, but any of the shooting sports teach SELF discipline and SELF achievement-those never leave the youngsters.  It is a worthy effort on your part.

I am USA archery and NFAA Level 2 certified, and I recommend that you go right to level 2 as I did.  Level 1 is basic - how to run a safe course, shot cycle etc.  

Level 2 allows you to certify level 1 instructors and is more useful.  I teach at my local Y and Town Park and Rec.

I am USA Archery Level 2 certified and also Centershot certified through MIssion Bows. This is church wide Archery program that is modeled after the Archery in the Schools program and not only reaches people through churches here in the states but also goes world wide sharing the Gospel through Archery. My close friend just got back from a mission trip to South Africa where they reached over 2500 kids sharing Christ through our great sport !

USA Archery level 1.  When you own an archery shop and people are constantly asking about lessons, it pays to be certified.

Centershot uses NASP®'s training. NASP® also recognized by USA A. NASP® training is as  much about how to teach as it is about archery. It is designed for the classroom teacher working with up to 30 kids at a time --118 NASP® students/year/school.

Only one bow and one arrow approved world-wide so that the process is the focus, instead of starting an arms race in the gym.

MOE Bow right. For NASP® and Centershot you must be NASP® certified. Even a USA A Level 5 Olympic coach won't get you in the NASP® classroom.

If you don't already have it, getting the NASP program in your school is one of the best things that could happen to the kids.  

Don't get discouraged.  It was an uphill battle for my wife and I (neither of us are employed by a school), but with a lot of persistence and doing our homework we now have the NASP in all 5 of our county schools.  I'll help at any of them, but I coach (volunteer) at one and we recently won our 4th State Championship in a row (been in the program for 6 years).

It's an amazing program, and regardless of how the bows look they were designed to shoot like a recurve...and do.

USA Archert Level 1 for many years....maybe it has lapsed???haven't taught a class in a while...will help with one in June I'm pretty sure....life is a little busy right now...our club helps sponsor a JOAD program, we do Intro to Archery Programs, shooting booths at events, other groups, lots of opportunity...fair amount of  NASP in the area too.....

I too have thought about doing this and have been a hunter ed instructor off and on for 30 years.

Do these courses require you teach compound as if so I'd have no interest?

BAK, That attitude is throwing the baby out with the bathwater!!  YES, the Genesis bow used in NASP has wheels on it.  So you have probably already quit reading this, but if you are still here...

The bow shoots and is shot LIKE a recurve!!!  In the program, it is shot with FINGERS, BAREBOW.  That means no sights, stabilizers, releases, etc, BAREBOW.  The Genesis has NO LET OFF, NO WALL; it shoots like a recurve!!

I see many that discard any participation in NASP because the bow doesn't LOOK like what they think it should and never look past the cover of the book; what a shame!

 This year, nearly 15,000 kids participated in the National Tournament in Louisville, KY.  AND that is JUST those that qualified to participate.  I do not know how many participated nationwide at the local, regional, and state levels but it must be well into the MILLIONS!!

For this 50+ year archery coach (who is strongly "traditional") the Genesis bow is the greatest BEGINNER'S bow ever produced.

SO, before you reject a program before actually checking it out and based singly on the appearance of the bow, please give it a look and see if it is as horrible as you think.

Arne, while I love sharing my 60 years of archery knowledge with others, I have zero interest in learning about wheel bows.  Just not willing to go there at this stage.  I can hardly teach something to others that I do not want to know about myself.

You need to do what you need to do!!  Just think you are missing a huge opportunity. Sharing your years of experience, enjoying the smiles of the kids when they succeed, the kids getting your leadership and knowledge, etc, etc.  Kind of a shame, IMO.

checked into it and will cost me 300 for level 1 and 2, not including meals and hotel.  Like NRA, then have to buy packets for student course.  Is there a exemption for experience to count toward any level?  Is there a practical application test?  Bow shoot test?
