Thanks Ryan. Yes Teckel is what Germans call these dogs.
I got my first Dachshund 25 years ago when I raised big bird dogs, Deutsche Drahthaars and other versatile breeds. Had four big dogs and wanted some comic relief, so the Doxie. Little did I know what heart and courage comes in these little packages!
I retired a few years back and put down my last Drahthaar, figured "Well, I'm too old for dogs." After some reflection, I realized I was just feeling sorry for myself and had at least one good dog life left in me afield. I thought back over the 20+ dogs I've owned and the short dog kept rising to the top of the list. Plus, the hunting I do most now is selfbow deer and hogs. I can use the help tracking.
I began to look for a really good one. Sian Kwa gave a blood tracking lecture and demo at Compton (Ryan helped) and I was impressed. I asked her to put me on the list... Her application and interview was intense and all about me and my qualifications and experience. I was lucky enough to pass muster and got my pup from her.
I bred this litter because a friend of mine has been after me for years for progeny of my dog. He wanted a female and the four pups are all females. His and one other are picked, paid for and leaving at eight weeks (June 21st). Two are still looking for a hunter with dog experience. Don't make me keep two more myself...
