Cresting with Rustoleums ?
« on: June 08, 2017, 03:32:00 PM »
Was wondering if anyone had ever done ? I'm in the process of moving and my dip kit is in a box somewhere and I'm trying to get some arrows set up to practice for this upcoming caribou trip?

I'll be painting gold tip blems.

(I can find the cresting machine just not the dipper lol)

I have used Rustoleum enamel on aluminum and FMJ shafts with good success.  Don't know why it wouldn't work with carbons.  I would hit the area to be painted with 0000 steel wool after cleaning and prior to painting and give it plenty of time to harden before fletching.  I use fletch tape and fletch tite platinum with spray painted caps.  I have had supper glue lift the paint when fletching so you may want to experiment a little with glues.

I've used Krylon spray paint on woodies with good results.

I use krylon on alums and carbons.  Doesnt like fletchtite, but the blue cap gorilla super glue works well w it.

I have used the Rustolem 2X spray. It says on can for outdoor plastic furniture as well as other materials. CAUTION: I tried to put the red over a base coat of white thinking the red would be brighter. But I only waited over night, I should have waited a week according to Rustolem. I got the "alligator " finish when I applied the red. From then on no base coat for me. Just cover real good first time. I use Testors Acrylic paints for cresting then wipe on MinWax waterbased polycrillic to protect. I use NPV glue for fletching.

Someone near me sticks his arrows through cardboard. Sprays two coats, then one of poly and uses Duco.  I wonder if Duco will stick to Rustoleum.

I do like pavan says with the cardboard

I prefer to use oil based tractor enamel instead of rustolium, not as many colors but a harder more durable pain IMO

No need to poly over the top of it either.

I have used both with good results, and yes Duco will stick to Rustoleum. sometimes on practice woodies I just spray and fletch, but I usually Poly dip a couple times after cresting on hunting arrows.

Will fletch tite stick or is that problem only with krylon

I use Bohning fletch-tape over my Rustoleum and have never had a problem.

I've used the cheapest white spray paint I can find for years and dip in gasket lacquer and I love them.
