Browning Cobra 2 String Length
« on: June 24, 2017, 05:49:00 PM »
My brother in law is in possession of a great old Browning recurve.  I'd like to build a string for it, but I am not exactly sure on the length; the bow is marked 58" AMO length. I'm sure it wouldn't be under 54" but the string may well be around 55" or possibly 56".  These small AMO inconsistencies are what drove me to build my own strings in the first place. If anyone has experience with this bow please chime in.  Thanks in advance.

My 58" bows take 55 on my recurve and 55 1/2"on a Hybred. Not sure why but they work for me.

Should be around 54" on that one, IIRC.  I hear you on the variations.  I've heard lots of excuses as to why bowyers didn't mark a bow correctly, but I think it's mainly that a lot of folks have no idea what AMO bow length specs really are, and the fact that the physical bow length has nothing to do with it.

The short Brownings do create head scratching on strings. I have a Cobra I that likes a 45" string. It is 50" AMO.

Bud B; that must be a Cobra 1.  The Cobra II is the bigger brother at 58"  The old Browning bows really are great shooters.  The cobras look great too.  Thanks for all the replies.

Had a 54.5"  string made for for my Cobra II and it fits well with a few twists.B-50 of course. Like its been said-good shooters and it is my late season hunter-drawn to 29.5". Has added to the freezer several years now.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.
