St Jude's Java Man Bow Finished pics page 3
« on: June 29, 2017, 12:12:00 AM »
I was lucky enough to win the bow donated by Gregg for the auction this year.  He emailed me the night of the auction to congratulate me.  The next morning, he asked which model I was most interested in.  I told him I was going back and forth between a couple different ones, so he gave me some insight to each one.  I ended up going with the Helms Deep, as I wanted a compact hunting bow.  He then asked if I knew what woods I wanted, which I didn't, so I gave him a description of the color scheme I liked.  He told me that he would shoot me some options the next morning.  I woke up the next morning to an inbox full of pictures of various veneers and riser options.  Whew!!  Tough decisions.  We finally settled on some cool Karelian Birch, stained, and some Curly Maple for the riser, also stained.  He then sent an email for approval of all the specs, as he fit this bow into his already busy schedule.

A few observations thus far, if you are looking for a bowyer that listens, responds, provides valuable input and timely suggestions, whose only goal is to provide you with the exact bow that you want, then Gregg of Java Man is who you want.

Gregg is among the very best hence the demand for his bows and the long wait time.  He did a superb job on the 2014 St. Judes bow which I won and owned for a spell.  I ended up 'entrusting' it to a fellow lefty TGer so that I could continue trying new bows.  I may get it back at some point or have Gregg build something even more striking.

Using kudu overlays for the tips and riser.

A shot of the riser.  Doesn't seem like this should turn into a sleek riser.

Gregg sent me some more pictures, from the glued up riser all the way to being ready for spraying.   Going to be pretty.  Will be topped off with a beaver tail grip.
