Any west Texas Trad gangers on here?

Well, I just accepted a job in the Midland area (plan to live closer to Big Spring/Lamesa).  I'm going out there tomorrow for a drug test and to view a house, and will be starting my job in early August.  Are there any trad gang guys from that area?  Just curious how popular traditional archery is and what to expect as far as hunting.  I know there are lots of deer out there, but am mainly curious about property (lease availability and costs, public land, etc.).  I'd love to hear from the locals out there.

I'm in Sonora, but that's about 3hrs south of Lamesa! There is a trad only archery club in San Angelo called Devils Mountain Archery Club. There is also an "open to all all" archery club in San Sngelo called Concho Valley Archery Club. I can't help you much with lease possibilities because I just moved out here 1 1/2 months ago.

New transplant to Odessa here. Moved 2 months ago and I asked a similar question a few months back.
Best bet for us is Mule Creek Outfitters, haven't been there but planning to.

Second the San Angelo trad group for 3D and just a great group of guys.Concho Valley has shoots the first and second weekend of nearly every month.
As far as hunting places,research TxP&W for
western areas that are available by enrolling
in what once was called Type 2 public areas.
$48 and they sent you a booklet of maps showing
landowners that allowed trespassing permission.
There are several around San Angelo and I know some big Areas around Big Bend.Many of those are draw.
US Corp of Engineers have areas also..especially around Lake Amistad.
Public areas so adapt quickly..some are draw.
Several San Angelo trad frequent here so just give them a little time to find your thread.

There's some guys from San Angelo on here and I've seen a few on some of the Facebook Trad pages. There's also a state page on here for Texas and I think there is a Club called Traditional Bowhunters of Texas. Have fun, I grew up in Odessa, would like to go back and visit some family friends but never have enough vacation time, I left there when I went in the Navy in 84 and haven't been back except to drive across the state going from point A to Point B. If they had mountains and elk I could live there again!

Devils Mountain Archery, and Concho Valley ,Devil's Mtn is trad only. Look up TOBT for a list on Trae shoots Concho was last weekend Devil's Mtn will have one in Sept also Texas Bowhunter has a Trad site. Good luck just got in from Fredrickberge nice shoot. TBOT SHOOT.  Lubbock has a TBOT shoot also.

I'm about 200 miles west of Midland in the Davis Mountains...moved from San Angelo about 5 years ago. Devils Mtn is a great group of guys and they have great shoots there...
There are a lot of folks in the area, once you go to a few shoots you meet them and probably find some even in the Midland/Odessa area...

old_goat2 (David)....as far as Texas not having mountains or elk, you haven't been to the right part of Texas....my house is at around 6500 ft elevation and we have lots of elk here...

6500 feet, pffft, that's a hill, I don't even get excited till I hit the 10k+ mark. I've been to Fort Davis, it's a cool place but they aren't mountains

Born and raised in Texas. Odessa from 1-6th grade and Ozona from 7th till I graduated. Have not lived there in quite some time, Navy took me away and then life planted me on Guam. I go back every year though for hunting season but I hunt mainly in South Texas around Freer.

I know Ozona and Sonora well as well as San Angelo but have not been back there in years. Good luck you are moving to a great state.
