What are the performance differerences between the older b50 limbs and the newer fast flight limbs.

Had a newer super grizzly a few years back when Bear was having those quality control issues. They were using some strange ff and dacron string blend.

I never measured it but I put a 8190 flemish on and it had a very noticeable speed increase.

I have Two SK's, one 1972 the other mid 90's that takes FF. I have an endless string BCY X on it. I wanted to see a difference myself. I did shooting the same arrows, same distance and I did see the difference.

I've found virtually no difference on Bear TD limbs if the same string material is used.  I use D-97 on all my bows.  I compared two sets of older red tips ('80s era) with a set of newer red/black tips (about 2 years old).  

All were marked 50#@28, all were no. 1 limbs.  In the same shooting session, I shot all of the limbs off the same Bear Green Stripe riser with the same D-97 string and the same brace height and the same four arrows. The older red tips averaged 2fps and 1 fps faster than the newer limbs, virtually identical.

As far as I know, Bear hasn't changed the forms it used years ago, nor has it changed much of the material that goes into the limbs.  It's still maple laminations and fiberglass. No reason to expect much difference in performance.

Holy moly that is very interesting I thought that they had made some improvements in their limbs.I was thinking of ordering a new set of limbs for my green stripe but that puts the kabosh on that idea.

Not everyone is willing to put fast flite strings on older limbs, but I am.  I pad the loops, and have never had a problem. The older Bear td limbs have fairly decent limb tip overlays, I think.

There is one noticeable physical/design difference between the older and newer limbs. The older limbs carry their width further out toward the tip before tapering toward the tips than do the newer limbs.  

The newer limbs begin their taper earlier, so they are a bit narrower throughout most of their length.  Thus, they're probably a bit physically lighter than the older limbs. However, apparently the extra material in the older limbs compensated for the extra weight so it ended up a wash.

For some reason, the newer limbs seemed a bit quieter to my ear.

Would like to see others do the same type of test I did.  Pretty sure they would get the same results, but more data would lend greater credence.

I always thought the only difference in TD limbs was the tips. One reason I went with aftermarket limbs to get a little more performance from my TD. I know some will disagree but my Rose Oak limbs out do my factory limbs.  I had to spine up as well.

werewolf< you will see a noticable increase if you have green tip limbs on your greenstripe, they are very slow in my opinion.
