Arrows for a bear Montana
« on: August 23, 2017, 06:13:00 AM »
Hey guys, I'm looking for ideas on a good deer hunting arrow for a 50# bear Montana longbow.  I appreciate any suggestions.

I'd try 45-50# spine wood if you're drawing 28"
That's what my son Tyler shoots out of his, and they fly great!
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

28.5 draw.  Ive used carbon but, I'm too new to have an educated preference.  I was looking at the bear archery retros, which look great.  And I have grizzly broad heads.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Any idea what weight Grizzlys you have? You'll need matching weight field points. Feather fletching, of coarse. Many prefer carbons, I prefer wood. Just personal preference...
If you haven't already done so, have someone mark your true draw length on an arrow. Add an inch for broad head clearance. That will give you your "back of point" (BOP) arrow length. (Yes, that extra inch makes a difference!)
Once you get back to us with the info, I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions to get you started!

50-55# wood, should fly great out of your Montana.
Cut them 31" then tapper the ends, and glue your points on.

In a carbon I'd start with a full length 500 since you don't have all that much weight up front.

I use 400 spine 30 in.with 100gr.brass inserts 170 grain points. They fly like a dot.

29" 400, 250-300 grains up front for my 55# Montana drawn 28.5"
Wanted:  Crow willing to fly into my arrow.  Blind, deaf and dumb preferred.  Mute a bonus.  One wing would be good.  No legs.  With vertigo...
