Hunted a couple hours this morning.. Rabbits and squirrels kept me company, it's early! I was in a Shingle Oak and the acorns fell on me all morning...

I'll be in the woods Saturday evening... sitting on some acorns!

I went out 3 times behind my house this weekend and had animals around me every time. I missed two turkeys Saturday morning. The first one was just a flat miss. The second one I got help from a little hickory tree in front of me.
Here is some video I shot of a fork horn and a gobbler Sunday morning. It's a good thing that I have fresh meat already in the freezer or this deer would have been skewered instead of videoed. Man, he sure does love his acorns!

I hit some public tracts close to home opening weekend. Saw nothing but other hunters. Sweated my butt off to. If it stays hot like this I am going to try for an evening sit over a watering hole I know.

I was out on Saturday morning. Nothing moving near me. I pulled some camera cards and saw they were hitting some water sources in the evening. 90+ degrees was too much for me in the afternoons. This weekend is going to be pretty good for the weather, at least here in the South central Ozarks.

Had a really cool encounter last evening. With the weather the way it is I decided to hunt over water. I set up facing north where I expected deer to come from near a water hole that seems to hold water year round. It is a a hidden spot not shown on maps it's so small right on top of a ridge. Wind was blowing gently from the south and east. I was sitting in a little natural ground blind 15 yards off the trail I know they use with several scrapes. Lol well naturally the first deer of the night showed up right at 7pm for a cool drink just as I thought the would. Except the approached from the eastern side of the ridge and wound up behind me and to my right. I had a big old pile of brush to my back and they were only 12-15 yards away so I was stuck. Little 60lb yearling and a nice mature old doe. I watched them drink and nose around for about 20 minutes before the wind started blowing. Well you guys know how this ends. It was really cool though. Big mama doe starts sniffing and looking and around the stomping slowly then faster. Next thing I know she's blowing her head off screaming hunter! hunter! Ha! I didn't mind that was my first close encounter of the year and a great one! Scent control is hard when it's 92 degrees! lol I think I lasted so long because I actually dipped my shirt in that water and put mud from it on my neck and arms. Too cool!

The rain kinda made that pop-up blind pay for it's self yesterday morning and had a close encounter with a bobcat that was fun. Got in the stand early with the cooler temps and a miserable morning I figured the deer laid-up most of the morning and afternoon. Saw the first deer movement at 4 and ended up seeing a dozen or better deer. Had this big doe slip in behind me and didn't think I was gonna get a shot but if she would go a few more feet to the left and I would keep my bow straight instead of canted I could do it. She inched just far enough.....thwack - that tigershark zipped through both lungs and she only made it 50yds before she piled up. Big doe from around here - she weighed 124 field dressed.

Congrats Tim. I was in Bollinger county at our farm yesterday evening and had a good hunt. I had one of the bucks we are after at 100 yards and saw a couple other small bucks. I watched him get up out of his bed. The next time I get the right wind to slip in on his bed he may end up in the back of the truck.
