Heading in from Co now, best trip ever, me and my two oldest boys and both of them got an elk! Oldest son Patrick took a cow, and middle son Bodie took a 4pt at 4yds! I Also got an arrow in the 4pt when he ran by me at 10yds. Awesome trip. Love the San Juan National Forest.
This is my oldest son Patrick, He shot this cow at 15 yds about 30 min before dark. we heard her crash and after about a 45 min wait followed the great bloodtrail the Eclipse head left. almost a complete passthrough, hanging by the fletchings on the exit side. Got her gutted and ready to pack out that night. 60# Fedora recurve, GT 7595 with 245 gr up front. 145 grn Eclipse with 100gr adapter
Two mornings after we packed the cow out we had a young bull come in to our calling, this pic was taken where the elk was standing when Bodie shot it, a whopping 4 yds. I was on the same elevation about 40yds to his left and when he shot, the elk ran straight at me and then cut up and to my left. I could see an arrow in him right behind the shoulder and I was able to get another through the boilerhouse as he flew by at about 10 yds. he ran on past me and went about 50yds to my left, stopped a moment and crashed.
This is just how we found him and that is the arrow I got in him as he ran by. 1 1/4 VPA 3 blade 175 grn with 100 grn inserts shot out of a 63# Schafer curve, bout 680 grns.7595 GT blem
Bodie and his trusty 58# Tall Tines, he shoots 5575 GT blems with 1 1/4 3 blade VPA 250grn and 50 grn insert
