Favorite carbon shafting
« on: September 17, 2017, 12:13:00 PM »
Mostly shot aluminum and wood. Thinking of switching to carbon this next season as im going to be shooting a much weaker bow than I am used to  and want as much energy retained as possible down range.

I'm leaning towards GT trads .246  with a brass 100gr insert. But I am also interested in those GT trad classics .204 with the heavy outsert.
The tapered Arrow Dynamics also have caught my eye.

What is your guys favorite carbon shaft and set up and why?

For reference the bow will be a 40#@27  r/d longbow with foam and carbon.

I shoot GT traditionals. Blems if they are available. They aren't that expensive and there is nothing wrong with them structurally.

I like carbon express heritage. I like the weight and duribility. I also use 100 grain brass inserts.

I am shooting GT Trads this year...the blemishes. My setup is almost the same as yours will be. A Bear Montana [email protected] I draw 27".

Using full length Gold Tip 1535's, with 100 grain brass insert, and 125g Magnus Stinger. They fly perfect!

Already shot two whitetails with them this season.

I shoot Gold Tip Traditionals.  I have both the blems from Big Jims and regular ones.  I see no difference in flight, or quality and the only thing with the blems is the woodgrain finish is sometimes less than perfect.  However, NONE of my blems have had a noticeably terrible finish.  I load mine up with 225gr up front.

CE heritage for me. Like said before. I really like the weight and durability. Good luck this season!

I really like the GTs, but have been shooting the Beman ICS Bowhunters more consistently than any others.  Got a set of Black Eagle Vintages and they shoot great, too.  I think finding the correct spine and length combo is more important than the make and model. (At least for me, the shafts are all more accurate than I am.)

I've been shooting gold tips exclusively for about 12 years. Very tough arrow. I've bounced them off rocks, metal fence posts, and plenty of trees and have only had 1 or 2 break. Started shooting the blems last year and see no problems so far

I shoot regular Goldtip hunter shafts. Use 100 gr brass inserts and whatever point weight from 125-200.

I use Beman Centershots. I was having trouble getting Victory's to tune (which may have been me and not the shaft - don't know), anyways a couple of other shooters at our Club told me how well they liked Centershots so I tried them and got them flying well with no real problems and they have held up fine.

Easton Axis for hunting. The smal diameter helps with center shot and penetration. Plus they just fly so dang well.
GT Ultralites for everything else
I like wood bows. They fit my style and mentally simple self

Try the heritage 75s.  It is likely the other arrows recommended above (in.600 spine) may be too stiff.  Just my experience w 40# r/d longbows...
