So after a 2 year break to hopefully forget some bad habits, I'm back at the traditional archery game. Been tuning some arrows and have them flying well but have an odd observation...
My bow is a JK Traditions Kanati 45#@28, and I draw around 27". Shooting GT35/55 Traditional cut to 28.5 BOP. I'm running 175gr field tips with a 1" 2117 footing and getting good flight (so it appears). I can shoot a bareshaft at 25 yards and it sticks in straight and within just a few inches of my fletched arrows.
According to the Dynamic Calculator, and from seeing what others are shooting, these should be way stiff. When I put a 200+gr tip, the arrow visibly noodles around but still groups decent. I can even drop down to a 145gr point and still fly straight.
I was shooting the same setup with shafts at 30.5 BOP and 175gr heads and couldn't hit squat. So I started playing around and it's like a switch flipped when I put a 100gr head on, they shot lights out. So my logic was to cut them down, and add more point weight to make a nice high FOC setup.
What gives? Is it me? Is it mislabeled arrows? Am I just lucky?
I shot woods last time around, and had them flying great in no time. They have always been a breeze to tune for me.
Just wondering if you guys have ran into similar. Thanks for sharing any thoughts!
