Squatting Chair/stool
« on: September 29, 2017, 10:00:00 AM »
Anyone made one of these? I really found the benefits of smoke pole hunting out of a turkey chair. I can sit in high grass or in the thick area below the browse line and be in a place the deer have no idea you could hide. Now this is not suitable to bow hunt from as you can get out of it to shoot.

I like the sitting on my heels position, but my legs go to speed in half an hour and I couldn't get up to shoot. Sitting on a basket ball helps, but it could be just higher.

I want a portable short chair I can bow hunt from on the ground in just a bit of cover. Normal chairs make too much noise/motion getting out to a knee. I and thinking of building a foldup model out of wood, or steel and maybe a bike seat.

Niff-T-Seat is my all time favorite ground hunting seat, used exactly how you describe.

My body weight is on the chair itself, but I am on my knees.

I like ground hunting from behind trees and natural blinds and what I did was take a fold up three legged stool and cut the legs down.  I can sit normal and then roll forward to a knee position to relieve pressure or shoot and then roll right back up to a sitting position

How about the Waldrop Pack seat? Low profile, rotate forward to your knees to shoot, very light weight. Love mine.

It may sound funny , I've tried several kinds of stools and chairs and I always go back to a an upside down 5 gallon or 3 gallon bucket. I have about three different areas to hunt like the one you mention, I just leave a bucket at each one so I can just slip into and sit. If you really want to be traditional you can substitute the buckets for lard stands.

I've used the Niff-T-Seat off and on for years.  Not comfortable after a couple hours (back) and, if you need to abort your position due to the unpredictable  movement of yer game, I have found that abandoning the "seat" to re-position for a shot adds noise to the equation.

Love mine too Bill. It doubles as a lightweight pack frame too. I can strap a thermos of coffee to mine along with a few cookies

I use a plywood tree-seat based on the Dean Torges design - but it requires a tree to tie to.

Not a problem hereabouts.

Do a search on "folding tripod stool"

I lost my cheap little 3 legged hunting stool last year, and forgot to replace it before opening day this year... DOH!

So a quick scramble around the garage produced this lovely little piece of crap:

Turns out, it works great   :goldtooth:   . Not a La-Z-Boy by any means, but for my scrawny butt it works. Folds up super small and i can slip it between my fanny pack and back and move along. Works excellent for hunting from my bicycle!

I have no idea where it came from, what they cost, if this is collectible and I could sell it and retire, or how much weight it holds. If you trip over one in your garage or at the thrift store, I can highly recommend trying it out.    ;)

When I have a really good spot that I plan On parking it for a long time like during the early rut, I use a Huntmor chair.  When I am not sure where I will end up I use a Nifty Seat with the longer spike and strap it assembled to my non shooting side.

I bought one of those several years ago, about seven bucks, real handy!
