Remember Mike from Maddog asked our opinions on what we look for in recurve?
around that time, I found a mention of him making a short recurve called machete back in 2012, so emailed him and asked if he still made those.
the short answer was YES.
but he couldn't use the old form, and needed to create a new form.
He asked me if it was ok to have a bow that's bit different then old machete? specifically, may be a bit longer..BTW, would I like it to have high brace-height or low brace height? as he was going to re-design everything from scratch anyway.
heck yes! So I asked him to make me one with low Brace, and riser/core/glass, all to 'Bowyer's choice', whatever mike decided would look good.
I asked him for it to be between 45# to 50# @ 28inches
and above bow is what he came up with. 50"(amo49" as it takes 46" string) recurve! Brace Height is 6.75". Mike told me it can go up about 1/8" if needed.
don't know what the limb-core is.. I hope mike can fill me in. but .riser is Zebrawood/blood wood accent/shedua. two different wood, but grain matched across the accent line, nicely done!
This is second one off the new form.
The first one came out 38#@28" so he has decided to go for the second try. He told me that the difference is 0.015inches in lam thickness... that's less then 4 pages of average copying paper! wow.
anyway...how does it shoot?
it isn't the fastest speed demon. I have another bow that takes that title. but is is sweet shooter!
may be relative quietness for recurve? almost dead in hand feel for such small riser mass? whatever it is, I simply could not put it down today.
to quote mike when he took out the first one out of the form:
"I'm not a big fan of short recurve bows or recurve bow in general really, but I couldn't stop shooting this one. I think you'll be happy."
and I can say this. He was right.
