White tail guru’s can I get some advice?
« on: October 16, 2017, 08:23:00 AM »
What wind would u like to hunt this property and where exactly would you hunt if?. This is a piece of public ground and a new area I will be hunting near then end of October. I was thinking over the rub lines along the sides. Not the rub lines on top of the ridges. I am Leary about the transition area into thick cover because of how close it is to private property. My thoughts are southern or Eastern  wind what do you guys think? [IMG]https://imgur.com/a/jKdtz[/IMG

I don't hunt ridges.  I prefer to be down off the ridges.  Let the trails and sign guide you.  Rubs tell you where he was  The trails give me a better idea of travel routes.  Even then luck still has a role.
I set up on the tra closer yo the soy bean field and they to the lower trail this morning.  I am set on the trail more often taken, but just not this morning

In the morning I would be on the lower scrape line (south facing slope and on the downwind side - presumably the eastern part).  I like the top of the gully as that is a funnel point where the deer will have easier terrain.  Remember wind currents tend to be rising up slope in the AM and downslope in the PM.

Just about the center scrape indicated n your link.

But I don't necessarily hunt scrapes.  I like the edges of heavy cover along well traveled routes.  But the wind trumps anything else.
