I remember seeing an add in 1962 for arrows, you got 12 cedar shafts,12 nocks,24 hen feathers and 12 cock feathers and 12 broadheads. All for the sum of $4,you just had to fletch and assemble them.

I used to have a Jones hat like that--best hunting hat I ever had.  Seems like they are hard to find now--never see them anywhere.

How much of my youth was spent looking at archery equipment in magazine ads, and mail-order catalogs....

Paid almost $90 for mine!

Consider that $100 then (1971) is about equal to $600 today.  This is just based on the average inflation rate from then to now - a bit over 4 percent per year.

1971, quit my $2.10 hr job and joined the Air Force.  And most of my "shopping" was done via the Herter's catalog.

I really miss the Herter's of old! I spent many hours browsing through that book of treasures. The funny thing is, that way back then, when I was sooooooo broke, I complained as much about prices as I do now.

Joe Vt...it probably did.  Back in the day... before viable 3d targets were on sale, everybody tat had them made their own.  Fake fur was part of the deal.  I was at a shoot in northern Illinois, just north of Rockford in the...hmmmm late 70s ? where the club built all their own,  They were one of... if not the first.... club to have a real 3D shoot as I recall.   Complete with ladder at one of the targets so you could retreive your arrows.

I love the wording of the ad.  You don't see businesses these days saying things like "this is simple and not hard to understand so please do not expect anything else"  maybe because advertising space is valuable or maybe because people get hung up over political correctness. either way, fun to see.

I used to have an old Jones hat like that but wore it out. Found another at a thrift store but is was far too small.... bought it anyhow.

I have a Bear Archery image of an ad from about that time (1970) that would get Rob and Terry unhappy with me if I posted it.

Lets say it has a lovely young woman archer more bare than that bear.  ;-)

My have prices gone up, I would say definitely yes. When the prices then were $40s to $80s+ and those same old bows and to day with prices of $100+ to $200+. Ya they kinda did.

Umm, inflation?  Dollars are worth less today than they were years ago.

$1 from 1969 is $6.73 today.
