Anyone willing? Pattern needed...
« on: November 06, 2007, 01:44:00 PM »
Anyone willing to tace out there bow or form and send me a copy?

I'm looking to try my hand at a lam bow, I've looked a binghams and 3rivers but do not want a 68" longbow. I have built a few selfbows. I'm looking for a reflex/deflex around 60".

I would like a pattern and measurements if possible. I.E.  Fades = .???, mid-limb = .0??, ect..also... handle = 4"x2", fade = 1 1/2" mid-limb = 1" tip = 3/8"

Thanks...
Dustin

Dustin, Get a copy of Dean Torges' video, "Hunting the Bamboo backed Bow". He has everything you will need to make a lam bow. His form is simple and adjustable to almost any size bow. You can use it for reflexed, R/D or recurved bows just by moving an upright or 2.    Pat

Thought about just printing pics, then converting them to scale. It will take a little while.

Thought I would see if anyone was willing to share to save some time.

Dustin,

I second the recommendation of Dean's DVD.  I think you can shorten the learning curve and save alot of time by studying it.  I bet I've been through it 25 times, and I still pick up new details.  Guess you learn more as you have "ears to hear"...

If you end up going directly to Dean's bowyersedge.com website, I'd also recommend investing $12 in his "tillering pamphlet."  If a picture is worth a 1,000 words, it must be worth 15 Grand or so!  This really helps fill in a lot of details that the video touches upon.

These are both money well spent.

Happy bow building!

I had thought about this "Pattern Sharing" before, maybe something like a pattern swap. I wasn't real sure if it would go well and with not having a pattern.

Well I had come up with something but never have built a lam bow and not really ever holding one. I wasn't real sure how it might work out.

Here is a pic of one of my selfbows "Whippersnapper" 52" nock to nock...

The next pic, if I had found Deans info about "Tillering the Organic Bow" I would have cut the lower limb an inch shorter. From the pic it looks like if it were and inch shorter the tiller would be better.

Anyway I'm rambling now...I'm now helping a guy from work with his first selfbow, with one of the big brother staves of the "Whippersnapper". I need to get going on mine again.

have a look here..

I order Mr. Torges "Hunting the Bamboo-Backed Bow", it is on it's way!
