1st All-Dayer of the Season
« on: October 27, 2017, 08:03:00 PM »
Saw a 3 1/2 and a 4 1/2 yr old on a hunt last evening. Both were in a methodical pursuit.

The 3 1/2 yr old was approximately 190#s and fourteen yards out. The more mature buck was a beast but 35 yards out.

Have passed on solid shot opportunities on 75 bucks during the last two seasons without loosing an arrow. Have passed on 12 separate solid shot opportunities on bucks this season.

The coveted opportunity is hopefully in the immediate future. Tomorrow warrants the first all-dayer stay in a prime ground set.

Wishing the best for all of my trad brothers.

I haven't seen that many deer in my life........

Was that a 190's whitetail or Mule Deer I've never heard of anybody passing on a 190 deer. My hat's off to you for being one of a few trophy hunters in the world that would pass on a 190's class deer at 14 yards with a bow.

Good for you but I'm not sitting in a stand and passing that many deer.  Not with a weapon in my hands.

I think he meant 190 pounds. That's a big deer!

Thank you gentlemen.

Today was quite eventful.

See rudimentary log notes:

10/28/2017....Moonshine Stand.

Temp...Lo 34...Hi 46

7:40...button buck...10 yards...

8:45..spike at 14 yards

10:30...big bodied 190#...130 class 8 pt...bird dogging a noninterested doe,,,canned into 15 yards...2nd time passing on shot opportunity

11:30...doe with tripletts from 10 to 12 yards

12:00...young grunting 6 pt...13 yards

12:20...button buck returned for 3rd time...10 yards

1:25...another young 6 pt...6 yards

2:00...two button bucks...12 yards

2:15...young 8 pt....14 yards

3:30...Large doe and yearling...12 yards

4:10 Two young bucks...13 yards

4:30...Same two young bucks return...7 yards

5:00...a doe and yearling...15 yards

Saw several groups of distant deer throughout the day.

Later stages of the Seek Phase

Does were holding tight to cover as much chasing was going on in the thickest areas where I could only here.

Best of luck. We aren't in rut mode here yet. We have a few pre-rut signs like scrapes and rubs. A few of the older bucks are starting to get glandular. However I've not seen any chasing, bucks (especially the younger ones) are still paling around together, I've herd no antlers crashing, none of the does I've shot have been glandular smelling. It's coming though.

A mature buck in my location will run 2 3/4"s to 3 1/4's.

My partner, on Saturday, was following a 3 1/2" track from a fresh scrape up the logging road away from the WI clover food plot. He then observed a 25 yard section that looked as if someone had gotten quite rowdy on 4 wheeler. The ground was a sight to behold.

He and I visited the location after dark.

An intense battle between two gladiators had taken place. The ground had been rutted, gouged, large areas scraped and slathers of blood covering an 8' by 20' area.

Actually resembled a Forensic File horrific crime scene.
