Quartering Big Game

Well I just cleared time for a elk/deer hunt that will start in a little over a month. It will be my first hunt across the state and I was wondering about quartering game. Are there any good resources online or videos I should get on this? Also what equipment is necessary?

I want to be prepared if I happen to harvest an animal. I know I should have a good knife, gloves, bone saw, game bags (or will plastic work?).

Do a search for "gutless field dressing" and there is a good tutorial on this. Do NOT use plastic for wrapping the meat. It needs to cool down as quick as possible. Also, plastic promotes bacterial growth. Invest in a good canvas type game bags.

Just wash and dry them and they are ready for more meat!

My buddy Todd Gregory and I  quartered the moose I shot last week using only a couple of hunting knives. We had axes and  a saw but all we needed were the knives. I  had the game bags and I highly recommend them....really good advice. Good luck. I should also add that on the two caribou hunts I have been on all the guides used were hunting knives. You need to know how to cut thru the joints at the shoulder and hips...but first take out the tenderloins and backstraps.
