Sorry boys, wanted to post last night but I was falling asleep as I added the post lol. So here we go.

About a year ago my father and I lost access to a large chunk of private land that we did most of our bowhunting on. To remedy this situation we really started breaking down the smaller portions of private land we still have access to. It's amazing how you can find fantastic hunting spots in some of the most unlikely areas. The spot I hunted yesterday is one of those unique spots. In essence it is a transition area between two thick bedding areas. The strange thing about it is that its only about a 3 acre piece of woods between two gravel township roads that butt up against our neighbors thick woods. So it feels strange having cars and trucks and farm equipment moving all around you while you hunt lol. However, I also believe this is the reason that the deer are hardly ever aware of my presence.

Alright so, most of you guys are aware that I had been complaining about this weekend being bad weather for my vacation days. To my surprise the weather cooperated and made for some really nice hunts. On Thursday evening I saw some good buck activity in the spot I was referring to and on Friday morning I saw I really nice 10 point enter that transition area but staying around 40 yards away. All of the buck activity was happening down the ridge below my hang on stand so on Saturday morning I decided to grab my hand climber and move down the ridge closer to where the activity had been. My dad decided to sit in my hang on stand higher on the ridge.

The morning was slow until around 11:15 when I saw legs moving along the ridge towards me and then antlers! I whistled at dad and got ready. The buck stopped 10 yards away and started making a scrape it was awesome! I considered shooting him at the scrape but he was quartering to pretty hard so I opted to wait. The problem however was I was already a nervous train wreck after watching this dude make that scrape.

As he made his way in front of me I drew and I hit anchor, however I panicked and did not stop him nor lead him as I shot. It's amazing how you can drive tacks at 10 yards all day long but put a live animal in front of me and watch everything change! I thought I had hit him waay back but I saw blood pouring out of him as he took off and went crashing into the neighbors thick property. I looked back at my dad and he quickly gave me a thumbs up. He had a front row seat of the show!

We waited about 40 min and then climbed down to check it out. I texted our neighbor and got the okay to go grab him. The blood trail was short. He had only made it about 60 yards from where I hit him. The shot was a bit back but not as bad as I thought, mid body or so. The snuffer did a fantastic job and I am assuming I hit the big artery and probably liver as the shot was steep and slightly quartering away. I couldn't be happier with him and it was another great hunt with my Dad!
