Earlier in the bow season Kenny shared his experience when he had made every effort to coax a buck to him and finally remembered the old rub the tree with the bow limb trick.
The other evening I finished an evening sit and began my climb down when I could no longer see to shoot. I reached the ground and removed my seat portion from the tree a sat it down. As I reached for my other half I heard a crashing coming straight toward me full steam from about 60 yards through a thicket.
The deer stopped at a small creek just 10 yards from my tree and stepped of in it. Keep in mind I'm hearing and not seeing this activity. All is quiet for 30 seconds and the water explodes. Off to yonder it crashes with blowing good byes.
No doubt that the same noise that Mr. Kenny's deer found alluring drew this deer to me. I can vividly recollect a morning hunt many years back when I climbed before daylight and halfway up a young 6 point came trotting and grunting up to the base of my tree. I stood motionless until he walked off and finished my climb.
I ended up killing him a couple hours later. I wrote all this to ask, how many know that they know climbing or descending has lured a buck at one time or another?

Come to think of it, I had a deer come in at dark once when I rattled down the tree with a climber.
Had several guys tell me they have had deer come in when breaking off limbs around their perch too.

Don't know about white tails but it is a favorite elk tactic.

My cousin killed a buck in Ohio years ago while half way up the tree. Heard it coming between sets, pulled his bow up quick and killed it

Interesting! I hoped for some responses like this. Not that my conclusion needed reinforcing just like to hear others experiences. I have spoke with a few others that have had it happen on the way up. Thanks

I coughed one time and thought oh s*** I screwed up my hunt only to turn around and saw a nice buck come in looking for me. Shot him at 15 yards.

I have bucks come in every year when I climb with my lone Wolf, in fact probably about 25% of the time. It’s also what I hunt out of for most all of my sits. I hang my bow off my arm, but haven’t had any mature bucks come in during daylight that got withing range.
