Will this new site be compatible and configured to use TapaTalk or otherwise be mobile friendly? About time this site makes it to the 21st Century!

i know lotsa folks wanna know where this forum "upgrade" is at and just when the heck is it happening.  well, it's been bugging me too ...

at this point, we've completed another conversion trial and have been testing the results online, using our current server.  we've had some members helping us with the testing.

it will never be a perfect conversion, some things will be missing and others might look a bit different but nothing will have ya head scratching trying to figure out what to do, and all the important stuff *should* be there -
  • all the threads and posts
  • all the members and their data and pm's
  • all the sponsor data and banner ads
  • most of the images ***
*** we ran into an issue with posted images in that the software mod we made to resize images conflicts with the conversion software, so after the live conversion we'll need to fix that before turning the system on for member access.

at this point we're right now buying the hardware, one massive new server.  it will take about 2 weeks to install, shakedown, and do another full test conversion.  then comes the real live conversion, which as of now will take a good week to complete.

during the real conversion, trad gang will remain online using the old server (what we're on right now), and any new threads or posts during that week will be lost.  unfortunately, there is no viable way around this issue and it's the price we need to pay to literally stay alive in the new millennium.

after the conversion, there'll be some time period, perhaps a month or two, where both the old and new servers will be used to support the new live forum system.  performance data during this time will be used to decide what the second new server purchase will be.  this will allow the forum database to run on one new server while the website data runs on another new server.

time frame for all of the above?  as of now, late december.  Merry Christmas, trad gang?

for the final test conversion (hopefully the LAST one!!) we'll be asking for a crew of members to help test it out.  as of right now, that would be about the 2nd week of december.  please pm or email me if you'd like to join in on testing.  thanx!

the new forum sofware is SMF (simple machines) and there's a taptalk app extension for it that i'll be implementing after the conversion.

Glad to hear the Tapatalk implementation! I do most all of my browsing from a mobile device and tapatalk is excellent. Will be great for those slow times in the tree stand... or when I should be working  :D

I’m curious about such things. Does the server live in someone’s home, or are there climate controlled server farms renting out footprint?

the later and definitely not the former, that would be insane!  :D

our host isp administers hundreds of servers, of which one large (and old, out of date, and about to get replaced!) machine that is the property of trad gang.  the server center is professional, climate and electric controlled, and a 24x7 administered service.  i've had a very good working relationship with them over the last 25+ years.

Will the new forum software make double posting more difficult?
