Good job, bud. I agree with your assessment of the similarities between tough hunting & life in general. "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." Cliches become cliches for a reason. Because there is truth in them. So, I congratulate you on not only a well-deserved & hard-earned buck, but also on being an example to all of what TO do, when being an example of any other course would have been much easier.

Great story.  I've been involved in 2 chase-downs with follow-up shots.  Both times the follow-ups were perfect.  Something about rising to the occasion maybe.  Or perhaps the Big Guy figured we'd suffered enough...both the hunter and the hunted. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations Mike for keeping at it and finding him.
These scenarios do happen even though we try not to but we can learn from them and sometimes no matter what as you and I and many already know we never know what is about to happen in a hunting situation cause only our "Creator" knows that!
You didn't give up and gave him ample time to die and then took up on the recovery like one should.
As for my "Moose Antler" buck story I had not much to go by and I started to question my hit cause I lost sight of my arrow just as it entered my buck and my doubts took the best of me and I had to make that decision that we as hunters hate and that was "To give up on the recovery"!
That isn't something none of us ever want to do including myself but you did give it effort and continued on and in the end you done well.
Thanks for your story and letting us all know we are human and in the flesh and these things happen to the best of us cause we as humans have faults and can make a mistake .
Not all shots are 100% perfect but we try our best .
Again thank you for posting your story!

Great effort, story, and education for us all.  The increasing use of dogs is fascinating. Have heard of nothing but good outcomes.

Congrats again
