Help snake skinin a mamba curve?????
« on: November 07, 2007, 03:48:00 PM »
I sanded 60 grit paper the limbs, I acetoned the limbs, I liberaly applied titebond 3 the limbs while soaking the skins. I then finger-swiped dry the skins and applied them. I worked out the air (so i hope) and started taking off some scales as they dried. I am thinking that as I "de-scaled) these puppies, I may have gotte down too far.....IS THAT POSSIBLE??????.....I can see kinda whiteish looking skin at 2 places between scales (pointed  skin flakes). what do I do now?....how long till I can trim excess skin off sides????.......what type of super glue do I use for covering the skins??????

maybe you rubbed them the wrong way you have to rub the with the scales not against them .

I use tb-2 and also a wooden roller to apply the skins, trim the edges when dry, the little white marks should blend in when they darken as you apply the sealer, I use 1 thin coat of thick industrial CA(superglue)  to seal and bring out the color after removing the scales and lightly sanding with 220,(I like a little texture to my skins)...  I use 220 on the edges too, then I apply finish.

I used damp snakeskins overhide glue and moved the skins around to let all air escape. I let dry used a butterknife against the scales then tape. I coated with abput six applications of true oil.
