The Dwarf's New Toelke SS
« on: January 02, 2018, 07:45:00 PM »
Well, I mentioned a few months back that I'd be replacing my Toelke Whip due to unfortunate circumstances. What follows is entirely show and tell!

First, the specs:
Toelke SS Recurve - 2 piece, 64# @ 33"

Myrtle Veneers (Dan had a name for the coloration, but I can't remember it)

I believe the handle overlays are Walnut. I told Dan to go with whatever dark wood he fancied. As usual with Dan's bow bolt bows, the handle is phenolic of some kind.

OH yeah, it shoots even better than my old Whip! With just a bit of moleskin it is a very quiet, very fast, bow. I dropped 6 lbs, and it handles the exact same arrows I was shooting from my Whip.

Nice looking bow as always with a Toelke! I picked up a used Chinook about 4 months ago and it's the best shooting bow I have. I bet that 64# really smokes an arrow

Nice bow. 33" draw? You could sling one through a wooly mammoth lengthwise!

Yeah. It was awesome to see the reaction of the guy at the archery shop when he helped me get an official measurement. I needed to know just how long my draw was so I could tell Dan what length to make the bow.

Congratulations on a very pretty bow!  The myrtle looks quite a lot like what Dan used on my new Pika.  Enjoy.

That's very very beautiful, congrats! Ain't new Toelke bows the Best!
Malachi, I see your last whip was a 62"?
Dan just made me a 62" Whip with a smaller 60" riser for a 30" draw. Did he end up going with a smaller riser than that on your old 62"?
64" Toelke SSLR
64” Toelke Whip SL
68” Toelke Super D

All the best!

New Toelke bows are an absolute treat!

As for my Whip, it was made back in the pre Whip HS days. Dan reworked his limb design a few years ago, and it added some speed. It also made for bows that stack a little sooner at a given length.

That said, I over worked the poor limbs on my old bow, hence the retired status. It was getting white delamination spots on the limbs. I believe Dan said 31.5ish inches was what my old Whip was designed to handle. All that to say, I don't think he had a smaller riser in my bow. It was just a bow he had in inventory when we visited his shop, actually!

Thanks! I believe I saw your Pika when you posted pictures recently. It was a beauty! Probably came from the same batch of wood.

Could someone explain what the HS and SS mean and  the difference between the HS and SS Toelke bows? Thanks. JM

The HS "High Speed" is the designator assigned to a Whip Longbow. The "SS"  is short for Super Static which is a 64" semi static limb design Recurve
64" Toelke SSLR
64” Toelke Whip SL
68” Toelke Super D

What arrows are you shooting out of that.  I can only think of three that would be long enough.
