Spiderline for Serving

Has anyone ever tried using spider line for serving? You know the fishing line that you can buy at Wal-mart?

It's good for tying nocks and cat-whiskers.

I used  some the other day to re- serve a string on one of my old compounds I was giving away to the son of a friend. Looked nice, Kinda small in diameter though. I used 50 lb. I want to try and tie on some arrowheads with it.

That got me thinking...Would regular old fishing line work?  The tough saltwater line would resist tearing pretty good. Is fishing line what they call monofilament?  If so I got a ton of that stuff and would never need to buy serving.

I've got an old spool of monofilament serving line from Brownell.  Looks to be about 6 or 8 pound fishing line. Used it before the new stuff came out.

I have taken it a step further and used Spiderwire as the string strands for the string on my 125lb Mach6. I has worked great for me.

ive been using braided spectra fishing line [ different brand but basically spiderwire], in 80# test , as centerserving over 12 strands of df 97, it works pretty well.

been told that halo is braided spectra too,so that's what i'm gonna try next.

The diameters are written right on the boxes.

I've been using Tuff-Line for my nocks/2nd serving. Makes the string a little thicker and easier on the fingers.

I'll be interested to see how long the mono lasts. It usually deteriorates in uv light, and most fishing "experts" advise getting rid of it after a year. Any problems with that?
