My brother and I walked around our farm some today. I got 2 and he got 1. Not too bad.

Colorado isn't selling permits to shed hunt. They were thinking about it earlier but decided not to charge to hunt sheds. However, they did set a date to allow people in to start searching to keep the stress off wintering elk and deer.

Finally some good luck finding the bigger sheds.  A bud and I were out for about four hours today. We each found one, but he graciously gave me his find since we were searching my hunting grounds.

Both are from fine bucks-hope you run into them in the fall-good luck.

My wife found one of the sides of the buck that I was after this past fall.  It's the biggest one she's ever found, so she was pretty pumped up.

I had a cool thing happen to me around Dec. 19.  I was driving to my hunting land and I was driving slow because it was sleeting. Just as I was coming into a corner a nice 8 pt buck ran across the road right in front of the truck and entered a field. As I was making the corner I kept watching over my shoulder and I saw him jump the far fence - minus his headgear...  I backed up to the field approach and could see both antlers sticking out of the snow about 100 yards out there.  When I hustled out to get them I noticed they had each popped off one bound apart, just randomly I guess.

The second part of the story is once I got to the property I picked a stand I on a fence crossing.  I wasn't settled in more than 15 minutes when I looked over my shoulder and saw a twin of the shed buck approaching the crossing 20 yards behind me.  Wind was perfect and the trail split and went on each side of my stand, I was all ready.  He jumped the fence and looked toward the edge of my property where a snowmobile trail runs along the border.  He got nervous and skirted me at 30 yards in the brush, as soon as he was out of sight a tractor showed up dragging a trail groomer.  This is a very remote area and it was the only time of the year the trail was groomed...

Within an hours time I had unique encounters with identical bucks - one lucky and one unlucky!

I am struggling to get the picture of the sheds posted, the 8 point was about 120 inch class.

Good stuff guys, was thinking of taking a walk this morning but a fresh blanket of snow will be difficult to find them under.
Relax,

Been out a few more times without much luck. Did find one old little one. Chewed up and discolored. Decided to leave it so the squirrels could get their mineral intake.    ;)

A friend of mine that is an official scorer says he should be close to 120”. Hopefully he will make P&Y next fall. I’ll be after him anyway.

Let’s get this back to the top. I know there’s gotta be more people finding sheds by now.
Here’s one I found today. To bad the squirrels found it first.

I've heard that deer will chew sheds as well as rodents-suspect hard winters might deplete calcium.

About 2 weeks ago I saw some deer in velvet already, two groups, one in southern Colorado (mulies) and the the other in northern Oklahoma (white tails). BUt last evening I saw a bachelor group that several still had hard antlers from last year. Yet I’ve seen yearlings already have buttons growing here. Strange.
