Best 3d target

I was thinking a 3d deer target might be fun and helpful for a sight picture.

A lot of deer targets seem tiny and not really life size. Any recommendations on a good one that is about the size of a good blacktail? Ill prob mail order so l cant really tell.

Also is the 3d helpful or is it a waste of 250 bucks?

I like the Rinehart 3D targets, because they are durable and easy to remove arrows from.    

 This   is an example of one from 3 Rivers.  If you want to save money, look around for a blem, because after you have shot it and it is out in the weather for a while you couldn't the difference from a new one after the same amount of time.

I think a 3D animal helps, because it helps you learn to aim for the kill zone rather than a bullseye.  You can learn to be just as good a shot shooting at a bullseye, but when we change the target we introduce a little confusion into the mind that could cause you to forget some of your good form.

I agree with McDave, Rinehart is a great target.

On the bargain side, for around $150, I have a Glen Del "Full Rut" target that I like.  Replacement vitals can be bought for around $50.  It has held up very well after 14 months in the weather.  I would guess it is a little bit smaller than a blacktail, though.

Our deer around here tend to be a lot smaller than some of the northern and western deer, so the smaller size of many of the available targets is very realistic for me. I like the Rinehart targets, but usually spend my money on the lesser expensive brands.

I do not like the Glen Dell! Hit them a few times with broadheads and they fall apart. I do love the rinheart!

I only shoot field points into my Glen Del - all my broadhead shooting goes into a block target.

Never seen a 3-D target that would hold up to broadheads. Rhineheart targets are hard to beat, but they are expensive. I use mine primarily as a warm up for bow season and I do not pound arrows into it on a day to day basis. I also store it inside out of the weather when not in use. It's lasted 10 plus years and I have not used the extra insert I originally purchased. Protection from the elements and not using them for broadheads is very important if you want your 3-D target to hold up well for the long term.
