Buddies out hunting
« on: February 12, 2018, 07:58:00 PM »
How many people have good friends out hunting and you are stuck at work... I can't focus on work, just daydream about being with them and check for updates non stop.

It's awful.

Cyclic, I think you are going to enjoy retirement when you finally get there! I guess I'm one of the dummies. I retired and then went back to work part time.

I love to see my friends get to hunt, and root for them to be successful, but if I’m stuck somewhere else, I’m also jealous because I want to be out there too!!!!

Many pigs were seen. None harmed. It's warm where they are which makes me want to be there more, although 24 feels pretty darn good right now.

Regarding the retirement statement, I'm looking for future farming options that will allow for falls and winters off. Might try to pick up a part time job during those months. This plan is still a couple years out.

I get a bit jealous also when my friends are out hunting, but that jealousy quickly disappears when I see them straining under the burden of packing out an elk.

GREAT time with old friends. Missed you out there Charlie. Hopefully next year. I'm planning the next trip already. The group definitely brought home some bacon. What a fantastic time.

I had a great time as well and missed seeing you too Charlie.
I really look forward to the "Yankee Pig Hunt" week every year. It's funny, I only just now thought to call it that. Everyone in the group is a Yankee except me... and I'm a Damn Yankee acording to my wife! lol
It leaves me totally exhausted due to the late night hunts  and early mornings back to work, but I wouldn't give it up for anything.

This year was a turning point for the group. They held off on the pocket pigs in hopes of taking bigger pigs. It seemed to work to a degree as pig sightings continued throughtout the week, where they would normally wain after multiple shootings.

Drews pig and the pictures are deceiving. both being taken at night and from different angles. It was one of the biggest pigs weve't had harvested in quite some time and I was interested in having it weighed.
They nocked the guts out of it at the lease and we stopped of at an ice machine to fill the cavity with ice for the eveneing... heck, it was only 5 hours until daylight anyway.
The next morning we hung it from my digital scale that has a maximum reading of 220 lbs and it pegged the scale.. field dressed. So that means it weighed 221+lbs + guts.

Great pics Casey thanks for sharing them.
i hunted the first night out of the Keep out stand and had two good pigs come in just after dark. I waited while one rubbed on a tree and planned my shot for just after it passed by the tree but as happens the second pig skweeeeled and took them both into the brush before I could shoot.
There was however a very large pig ( by the sound) of it in the brush right under the stand to my right. I tried several times to see it with my red light but the brush was just too thick. That pig rested there for three hours before I had to get down . I grunted and used my phone to skweel but it would not leave . I finally lowered my bow and it ran off a little then walked away. so ends the first nights hunt.

The next night i hunted in a ground blind in the swamp with no feeder but i put out some corn and it wasn't ten minutes and I had pigs in . They where all 40-50 lb pigs and we had decided no smaller pigs early in the hunt to preserve the stands. That group came in twice and I could hear some bigger sounding pigs just out of sight but never came in and so ends the second hunt.
