hate to spoil the party but ya need to be careful with this idea ............ if you are  hunting near farmland , most farmers would not appreciate one bit having someone releasing milkweed seed to blow out into their fields ................. milkweeds are very hard to control with most ag chemicals

Good point Rick.  I pick all of the seeds out of mine.

We don't have milkweed around so I cut florescent fishing yarn in to 1" strips and it works just as well with a little more visability.
You can also snag a small strand on to a twig in front of you and it will inform you of the wind while you are still hunting.

Ain't found any milkweed so I took a bag of shelled corn to toss from the stand. Wind around here blows straight down apparently.  :bigsmyl:

If you don't have milkweed, plese don't ask that he send you some-Lord knows we have enough non-native stuff out west-yep some people are non native invasive types as well.

Curt, nice idea with the mounting of the dispenser for folks that leave their quiver on all the time. That would work well with the little eye dropper bottle with talc too.

Guru-
I really like the idea of mounting your case on your bow quiver.  I hang mine off my shoulder strap on my back pack.  I don't really like that because I have to take my eye off my suroundings to find it.  Good tip.

Looks like a good way to carry a scent canister during the rut or one of those wick jobs. Cool way to mount stuff. I just need to figure a way to adapt the idea to a stand since I don't carry my quiver on my bow.

Curt,

I've been using milkweed for a couple of years now.  Since I learned about them from one of my IBEP students.  Great idea with the film canister.  Sure beats digging the pill bottle out of my pocket, twisting the cover off, etc.  I'll be making one of these for this weekend.

Curt

Good idea!

Lately I've just been pulling yarn off of the string silencers J.D. put on the Ancient Spirits bow he built me.  Must be 6 lbs of yarn in each silencer!   :)   When I get those silencers pared down some I'm gonna drill me a film bottle.

BTW:  Dandy arrows, I really like the broadheads!

I'm heading to Iowa this weekend for my first hunt there this year....8 hours each way is a bit of a drive for a weekend hunt....but its worth it  ;)

Ryan, thanks man.......I thought a lot about what you said on that other thread..made a lot of sense to me...decided I wanted to really give them a fair try.I like the extra weight too.Hope to run one thru a deer this weekend!!!

Good Luck in Iowa...I'd drive 8hrs to hunt Iowa anytime...wish I was that close. But I'm gonna drive 17hrs to hunt 7-8 days in Nov.!!!

I Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!

There are many plants, all over the country, that use the wind to disperse the seeds. Lots of these will work. Around where I live we have a wild lettace that produces "little Santa Clauses" that work the same as milkweed.
Some farmers might not like it but the monarch butterflies will love you for spreading milkweed.    Pat

The Milk Weed canister is a great idea. I like to tie a small light feather to a 6" piece of sewing thread or dental floss, then attach it to my upper limb with a small piece of beeswax. I put one on each bow I hunt with.
I used to tie it to the bowstring, but spent way too much time unwraping the feather from the bowstring. Bob Burton gave me the idea of attaching it to the limb. Frank
