Two fingers under?!
« on: January 30, 2007, 07:50:00 PM »
Tonight I was shooting with two fingers under.  I always shot 3 fingers split (if thats what its called?)  The other day I worked up a good blister on the tip of my ring finger and at work and it started to bleed while I was shooting.  I just droped it off put two fingers under the arrow, putting my bird finger in the courner of my mouth.....I began to shoot great!  And from distances I usually don't like 30-35 yards.

I was wondering if anyone else shoots like this?  If you do how much do you pull?  Thanx.

B&R,  What you did amounted to shooting three-under but using only two fingers.  Three-under moves the arrow up and closer to your line of sight.  Many people find that they shoot better this way.

I shot three-under for several years and went to split-finger.  I've always used three fingers to draw so I can't comment about two.  I guess it would depend on the shooter as to how much weight you could pull.  As with most things in barebow shooting, do whatever works for you.

that's exactly the way i shoot.your index finger does'nt doe much any way,it naturallly wants to come of string at draw,so let it go.i have my bird finger and ring finger under string.i think it helps me find corner of mouth easier too with the index finger out of way.the fewer fingers you put on the string, the cleaner the release tends to be.shoot on brother, shoot on.

B+R, I shot two under for almost a year until I overdid it and pulled the tendons in my fingers. Yery painfull and couln't shoot for almost a month. I now shoot 3 under again. Use caution if you are shooting a heavy bow a lot.

I shoot 2 under also, but I anchor past my mouth on my jaw. I have a 44# @ 28" recurve, but I am pulling it further than 28". I am probabally pulling a little over 50#. I have pulled heavier bows this way and I agree about the cleaner release.

With my recurves, I shoot 2-under (index and middle fingers).  One is 45# and the other is 48#.  I don't think I could go beyond 50#s, though.

Accuracy is much better than any other way (i.e. 3-under or split-finger).  Makes sense.  Less contact with the string means less potential for problems.

My 47# longbow, however, will NOT tolerate 2-under; it insists on 3-under.  Don't know why but it does.

I use a tab, though I cannot find a 2-finger under tab.  Is anyone aware of one?

I shoot 2 finger split, using my index and middle fingers. I bought a peice of cowhide, used a regular tab as a basic pattern, just cutting out the part where my ringer finger goes.

I started shooting two under after watching Scott Antzclak's Dead On Traditional video.  It has really helped my accuracy.
