my form vids (new shots/vid added)
« on: February 02, 2007, 12:24:00 AM »
since everyone else seems to be doing it I figured I'd join in     :D

just took these quickly with the avi setting on my canon digital camera.  some of the angles are alittle dark cause I was in my garage which doesn't have the best lighting.  also not that I was braving the cold for most of these...its in the 20s tonight and I was out there in a t-shirt for the sake of being able to see my arms, etc.

here goes...

I opened up the garage door and stepped back to 15 yrds and let fly...

not my best group of the night (was getting a bit tired)....the one before this one I actually had three shafts touching in the red but had one 'flyer' outside the circle so I didn't take a pic.

Is that a Hoyt bow you are shooting?

..or what?

Interested in your feedback.

nope.  made by a friend. he named it 'Red Thunder',  the limbs are osage and paduk between clear glass.  can't remember what the riser woods are.  its around 56-58 # at my 27" draw.

thanks terry.  the only time I get to shoot during the week is at night.  I'll try to get a daytime set this weekend depending on the weather.....

The garage is fine......all you need is to plug in a lamp for some back lighting....and take the shade off.

and there seems to be an awefull lot of glare coming off the crown of my head in some of those shots

Marc, yer not the only one with some extra where it didn't used to be

Form looks good to me. Only thing that jumped out was there seemed to be some inconsistency in your release. A few looked absolutely textbook with your follow through coming straight back (like shots 1&2 in the second segment)....excellent back tension. On a couple, it looked like your hand flew away from your face before follow through (like shots 2&3 in the first segment)...usually indicating loss of back tension. It wasn't much, could have possibly been the camera angle but it looked different than the others.

thanks joe....the you're probably correct there.  the back tension thing is still somthing I have to think about every once in a while or I loose it.

a little background may be helpful too...came over to the 'trad side' in 99, but went deep in and went right from confounded devices (someone here used that description once and I kinda liked it) straight to selfbows. and cought the bug bad.  made a bunch of bows over the next couple years and never consistently shot anything.  never developed good form.

got frustrated enough after missing a bunch of deer that the confounded device came back into my thoughts...and I knew I didn't want to go that route so in October I resolved to get my form down, regardless if I had to shoot at night (after my daughter gets to sleep) in the dark and cold.

so I've been sticking the same 2 bows, (but most the recurve in the vids) and shooting in my garage and driveway at night under lights at least 3 times a week.  sometimes doing the 'blind bale' (upclose with eyes closed trying to feel the form develop), and sometimes between 15 and 20 yards.  (20 yards is the limit only cause I'd be out in the middle of the street dodging cars).   I can definitely say that I'm very happy with the improvement thusfar....but I know that there are (probably a lot of) little things that I can work on.

thanks for the input!

Looks pretty good to me.....just ditto what JC said.

Alingment looks really good...and the consistent release should fall into place with more shooting.  Just make sure you aren't telling yourself to 'let go'........when the mind says the shot is good to go - just relax the string hand.

It looked great to me.I wish I was that consistent.
