You ever get out and shoot in bad weather.
« on: February 04, 2007, 08:12:00 PM »
Yesterday and today I shot in single digit temps, high winds, and snow. Yesterday I shot well and Today, the weather really got to me and I struggled to make, even a normal pie plate group. I didn't push it past 18,20 yards but I felt it would be a good practice to get out in inclement weather and shoot. I do it in the rain, wind, snow, and frosty temps and low light. I also do it fully loaded with my normal huntin clothes on.
Anyone else like doing this?
Take care Jason B.

Kinda. I've been tackling the sub-freezing temps for the past month by shooting out of my garage door. I have a propane heater pointing at me as I shoot, so I really only get cold when I go out to get my arrows. I can shoot for a long time that way.

I TRY TO GET A FEW SHOTS IN EACH DAY NO MATTER THE WEATHER.
I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

My club holds 3-D shoots every month all winter long. You wouldn't believe how many guys show up when it's very cold and snowing like crazy:)

I practice in the wind all the time, very important out here, last week it was 4 degrees, 20mph wind and snowing,  priceless!

Whitebuffalo ~ My hat's off to you for your diligence! It's below zero now and I'm afraid of me or my bow cracking at full draw.   ;)

A while back, someone posed the question about how cold weather affects shooting performance. Have you seen much change at 20 yards? Have you had to readjust your aiming?

I haven't taken it past 20 but I will tomorrow and I'll let you know. I'll talk my wife into some pics of me scaring my neighbors in my backyard. They might think I'm hunting their kitty, LOL.

I have been out the last three days. Temps from 8 to 17, windy, but sunny. I have a target range and a feed sack course through the woods by the house. It's a good way for the beagle and I to get some excercise.

I've been shooting some out in the cold (teens and twenties) this last month and haven't really noticed a change in aiming. It's harder to get loose and stay loose. I'd say the toughest thing is to keep focused on target when it's that dang cold outside.
Thats my two cents,
Have a great day, HH

Snowing pretty good and close to 0 the past couple days here. Aint been enough to stop me. Just put on my cammo bibs and go at it. When I get an inkling to shoot, I gotta shoot.

Hasn't hit double digits yet this week in the mountains of PA. I've been shooting, but indoors. I'm really just rookie, and still concentrating on form. Hard to practice my release when my fingers won't move.
