It seems like my arrows are flying tail right. Whats up?
« on: February 06, 2007, 03:55:00 PM »
Im pretty new to all this stuff so have patience guys. I shoot a Hoyt Gamemaster II its around 53lbs at my dl I believe. I shoot 3 under. I am shooting easton xx75 2016 gamegetter II lite shafts, cut at I believe 29" they may be 29 1/2 but I think they are 29. Tipped with a 125gr FP. Now heres my problem. I've been trying to get perfect arrow flight because to have anything but perfect arrow flight bothers me. When I shoot and watch my arrows, it seems to me like right at the end of their flight they are going tail right. But, when I shoot them through paper I get perfect bullet holes at 5, 10, and 20 yards. Am I imagining the tail right? Am I just seeing them strike the target and vibrating? Also the arrows were bought pre fletched. I believe they may be strait fletch, with 4" feathers. Maybe because they are strait fletched the flight dont look as clean because they dont have that hard helical spiral? Or, am I actually overspined like it seems im seeing? If so, how am I getting bulletholes? Thanks for any help.

Click on the A&H Archery banner and read the "bow tuning" page.

What does your paper test show with bare shaft?

Tail right kick is stiff spine for right handed shooter, opposite for left hand.

Go up in point weight, see what happens.

I havent bare shafted it through paper. I've only put it through paper with the fletch on. Good bullet holes there.

FIF

Well...bare shaft will tell the story, but based on the evidence presented, it sounds like pretty dang good arrow flight. Maybe you just need a little more faith. (grin)

Be sure to strip that straight fletch off and re fletch with a little helical before you put broadheads on them shafts. That's another way to check your tune, by comparing broadhead impact point with fieldtip. If you are tuned, they should be in the same hole or very close...
