Average distance at our club is 15 to 20 yards on small targets and 20 to 35 on larger targets. The good shooters will shoot 220 to 260 out of 300 possible score. The rest of us :>) shoot somewhere 180 to 220. Mostly lung shots with an occasional heart shot and 2 0r 3 fives. Out of about 28 shooters, nobody is bragging and nobody complaining about other people. Just good fun. The hunters are more interested in a kill shot at the particular angle the animal is standing.

On targets scored 12, 10, 8, 5, and shot at 15yd to 25yd with a couple larger elk and buffalo targets at longer ranges, my average this so far this year has been 8.4pts per target. My best place was a 2nd . But, in general I've been coming in 3rd or 4th place all the time. Top shooter at the Dixie Deer Classic in NC. shot the 15 targets (13 deer,1wolf,1 bear)with 14x10's and 1x12 with a long bow. All I can say is don't go down to North Carolina and expect to win much of anything by shooting 8's.

I shoot in four different 3-D leagues here in southeast VA. All use the 10,8,5. Some use 11 for the X-Ring. But I don't and a lot of others don't go necessarily for the score , because the scoring area is not a killing shot due to the profile of the body, (broadside, qtring away, qtring too). So we shoot for the real deal kill not the scoring area if it;s not a kill due to profile. Also we don't shoot past our comfort zone. If it's past what we usually shoot we walk up to where we would take the outside shot and shoot. Hey I won't pick up no trophy's but when in the field have a better % ON DOWNED GAME THAN SOMEONE';S SCORE. But it's fun shooting the the course anyway. To each his own.
