Form is breaking down!
« on: March 12, 2007, 07:34:00 PM »
Ive been shooting great lately but today im just breaking down my main issue is when I come to anchor as soon as my finger touches the front of my lip I release I usually get snug in the corner of my mouth. Whats odd is that I can hit then anchor if im not planning on shooting and I can hold it as long as I need to. Soon as I go to shoot boom I snap shoot soon as I touch my lip. What do you guys suggest? Ive tried blind baling and it doesn't seem to help me.

You're not overbowed but you sound like you are getting target panic. Concentrate on your basics and that should start to take care of the TP. Try slowing down your draw. Concentrate on your back tension and push/pull to release. Follow through, hold on target until the arrow hits.

2Blade, I get into the same habit sometimes.

Someone suggested to me to draw and come to anchor and just hold for 2 or 3 seconds while aiming at the target, then slowly let down, then repeat 3 or 4 times.  Then, once you've relaxed somewhat, do the same thing, but this time after the 3 seconds, release.

This method really seems to help me get out of the snap-shooting rut that I get into sometimes.

Just a suggestion.  Hope it helps!

Ill give these tips a try im going out to shoot in the yard with the side light on. What does a click actually do? This was explained to me some time ago but I didn't really understand the concept is it something I should really look in to? I dont like spending money unless I absolutely have to.

Beware that a clicker "might" make you release right as you hear the click!  I tried a clicker and this was something that I noticed would happen, especially once I got a little tired.  I don't think you want to become conditioned to releasing upon hearing the click, as that is not the point of using a clicker.  Something to keep in mind...

I think releasing when you hear the click is not such a bad thing.  At least you're at full draw.  You're maintaining back tension and have no creep.  If you like to hold at full draw for a moment before release to stabilize things, you can accomplish that by slowing your draw way down at the end, say taking a full second to draw that last 1/8", and then releasing at the click.  This also guarantees that you maintain back tension and never relax the push-pull throughout the draw.

I did this for a long time, but hunted without the clicker.  Finally, I think coming to full draw is ingrained enough that I removed the clicker.  But if I find myself reverting to bad habits, I'll put it back on.
