Colour of feathers......???????
« on: April 13, 2007, 06:12:00 AM »
For me...the best part of practise is stumping. But I have a problem.....some of my arrows keep playing hide n seek with me. My question to you."What is the best colour feathers for stump shooting, as well as hunting"?

Appreciate your help.

I got bright orange and bright yellow.  (for stump shooting)
was excited and thought "I won't loose these"

They blended right into the fresh leaves on the ground!

I have switched to bright pink (my daughter's favorite color) and bright green:  Those seem to work real well.

I have heard others say "bright blue", as nothing in the woods is that color.
Good luck.

Bosveld,

Pick colors that 1) don't match the surroundings, and 2) you can see really well.

Everyone has a color that just jumps out at them and it's different for different people. I use lime/chartreuse. A well known bowhunter uses red all the time but for me they wouldn't show up at all. So, pick what works best for you and don't worry about shooting "strange" colors. Fred Eichler shoots hot pink fletch and I don't see anyone giving him a hard time about it.

Forest Green.... if I can't find it. Nobody else will either!!!   :bigsmyl:   Just kidding!

I like White Hen Feathers.

Friend of mine can't see red because of color vision.
Use reflective wraps and go back at night.
Works with any fletching color.

Dave thomas hit it on the head, there have been studies to show that the human eye sees flo. yellow or chartreuse and baby or powder blue the best regardless of the enviroment. Shawn

I use solid yellow shaft, yellow feathers and yellow nock on all my arrows but they are a little hard to find if you are stumping where there are a lot of yellow flowers but are great for hunting.  :D    :D    :D

For me, the best fletching color for stump-shooting is the same thing I use for hunting. One of the worst things for me to have happen is not seeing where my arrow hits an animal. That's why I use yellow and orange feather. It's not 100%, but it's the best I've found.
