Arrows hitting shelf
« on: May 03, 2007, 06:59:00 AM »
I just got my Martin Savannah and really like it.

It says 55@28 but my scale has it at 52-53#.

I am shooting gold tip 33-55 traditionals at 30". The arrows are hitting the shelf and making a heck of a noise. Is the spine to weak or 2 stiff ?
I have tried 100 and 125 gn points. I don't have any arrows with out fletching but I can strip some if need be.

These are the same arrows I am using with my predator recurve at 55# and they work great with it.

Any help would be appreciated

I have a Savannah also, 50@28.  I'm shooting 35/55's at 29.5 and theu fly great.  My nocking point is 1/8 high from center.  At 55#, you might need 55/75's.  Is the kick up and down or side to side?  Up and down is usually nocking point too high or too low.  Shortening the arrow will make it stiffer.  I shot a bare shaft at 31 inches, then cut off a 1/4 inch at a time till the shaft was hitting straight at 10 yards.  I stopped at 29.5.  I also set the brace height at 7 1/4 and get good groups.

By the way, the spine for a recurve is different than for a longbow

Good luck
Mike

Another tip I would add with the savannah - is not to be afraid to try a low brace height.  I played around with mine from 6 1/4 to 7 1/2 and surprisingly, 6 1/4 shot the most accurately, as well as the fastest and smoothest drawing.  I really like the savannah.

Mike, what grn point are you using on your 35/55's ?

I have tried the nock from zero to almost 3/4". It is at 1/2 right now.

Stagmitis, would I really buitl out the shelf it it is already hitting it ? I would think it would hit harder then ? What am I missing ?

Hardhed, My brace is 7 1/8 right now. I will lower and try agian.

Thanks for the help guys !!!!
