I didnt do terrible I shot 177 my uncle says that not a bad score for my first time with a recurve. I kept my shots from 15-17 yards the first half I shot terrible because I wasnt anchoring but I started to get my act together on the second half so here are the pics.

Turkey target 15 yards this was the first shot of the day my confidence was low but my arrow was high (mine is the yellow)

Second target wart hog at about 12 yards:

Another shot at about 20 I was about crapping myself on this target luckily I didnt miss this was my longest shot on the day.

Deer at 15 yards my release was terrible so I shot extremely low

Hog at 17 yards this was on the second half of the course my shooting was much better

Big horn sheep I was feeling cocky so I shot him at 18 yards one of my best shots of the day

Deer at 13 yards there was no good back drop to catch my arrow so that is why I stood close

Last pic this was a hog target we shot twice because we had to make up for it because we couldnt find it last time  lol

So what do you guys think of my shooting first time out with a recurve? I also got a new Kant Pinch tab one of the best ive shot really like it.

2Blade don't be nervous foam is fun. I usually break at least one arrow per shoot. I shoot woodies & they don't like glancing shots. Have fun that's the main thing. Frank

If I would have shot from the stake the average shots are 35 yards being that im good friends with the shop owner he doesnt care where we shoot from he wants us to have a good time so something like that wont set him off im not sure if its required you shoot from the stake or not.

Nick If you are shooting in a 3-D match for prizes you have to shoot from the stake. I have even shot in those & only kept score for myself & shot from different places. As long as you don't try to turn in a score I don't think most would object.Archery is supposed to be fun, be safe & have fun. Frank

Hey Nick, I have just been shooting 3-d for awhile and it is an awful lot of fun.  Listen to Frank V., he is one fine gentleman.  I live close to him and he helped me tune my recurve and find the correct arrows so that I can hit something with it.  I got the bow for Christmas and it set for 4+ months because the first arrows I got I used the Easton chart and they were way to stiff.  I couldn't hit anything.  I met Frank about 6 weeks ago at a shoot and he helped me figure things out and the wheelie bow has been setting since then.  Have fun and keep 'em in the middle, TMG.
I love animals!  They're delicious!

A 177 for a traditional bow is great in my book!       I just shot my first 3D course this past weekend also, but I shot with a compound bow and I got a 201.  I haven't worked up the nerve to shoot my recurve at 3D yet.

I've been shooting alot fo 3D this season (first season ever) and a good buddy of mine got me hooked on it.  I have been using my wheelie up to this point and have progressed greatly and I think it is the best practice next to shooting real things.

This sunday will be my first 3D shoot with my new to me recurve so I hope I shoot half as good as you.

Oh and that deer target you shot low on...I'd take that shot anyday.  That what I aim for on a real one...if they jump the string I'm still in vitals!

Were going over again this weekend and im taking the curve ive shot 3-D for years with a compound it gets boring putting that pin on the animal and the arrow goes right there I need more of a challenge. Plus ive come to love my recurve more im tired of worrying about peep sight tube breaking fiber optics ETC.

I think you did a great job, man!

Shot my first ever 3D earlier this month, myself. Everyone kept telling me that I would spend half the day looking for my lost arrows, and that I can expect to shoot horribly for my first time ever.

I shot a 256 the first round and a 259 the second time around. Maybe beginners luck, but I seemed to focus a lot better than when I'm just shooting a bags from across a mowed yard. I never turned in my score card...and I came home with all the arrows I left with!

That's darn good shooting vanilla most of the people I know think its dumb I choose a trad bow but then again I dont care who I impress as long as im happy with it. Is surprises me how many people bash a recurve or longbow simply because it doesn't use a sight or release.

2Blade, you will also be surprised just how many shots you can easily take with a trad bow that are completely out for a compound. Such as having to cant the bow to get around a peice of brush, or ducking down for the same purpose. I have successfully shot my longbow almost horizontaly trying to get under brush. You can also shoot long after the sights are out of light. Hang in there & don't worry about what they say.Relax & enjoy. Frank
