Anybody use a Cavalier Elite tab?
« on: November 29, 2007, 09:23:00 AM »
My major problem with shooting is a consistant release. Will a cavalier tab help me get this under control? For those of you who have used them do they help? I have been using a glove since I started shooting a bow so a tab would be a change from what I am used to. Any comments would be appreciated.

I prefer tabs over gloves and use the Elite.  It works better for me than any other tab that I've tried.

It is easy to be consistent with my finger position.  Before drawing, I just start with the string against the plastic and when I draw, it settles consistently into the crease of my fingers.

It may or may not work for you, but the price isn't too bad to give it a try.

Don't expect it be a magic cure-all for release problems.  You have to develop a consistent release by practicing bow hand relaxation, good back tension and follow through on the shot.

For me the best release is not an active part of my shot.  It is simply when I quit holding the string and let the bow do it's job by pushing my fingers out of the way.

Good luck,
Allen

I am presently using a glove. I`ve heard that a tab gives a cleaner release. I`m wondering what the preference is among trad shooters. Tab or glove?

I have used the Cavalier Elite for several years.  They are a good tab.

I have used a cavalier for about a year now. It takes a period of time to learn to use it properly but it is the only tab I use now.  A Suggestion....Buy a size large.  If it's too big it can be trimmed,  but it's really difficult to make a medium into a large.

They are the best by far.

what kind do you'll use, i have checked lancaster archery and all they have is the one's made from "super Leather". is that different, any better than the cordovian ones at 3 rivers?

SuperLeather is OK, but Cordovan is slicker and wears like iron

Well I tried the tab it came on Sat. I was grouping the arrows high and left. I swear the arrow looks like its going a lot faster and straighter using the tab. Maybe its just coincident. I think I can shoot this thing if I practice. What could be causing high left? Different anchor would be my first guess. What do you guys think?

The Cavalier is a very good tab, also very popular with Olympic style archers (with the shelf attached). I tried a glove again recently but I am going straight back to a tab FWIW

By the way "Thanks" Rod for recommending the Cavalier. I have been shooting better than ever with this tab.

Your welcome, Snag!

Slayer...the high could well be a cleaner release and arrow flight is impacting higher than before, as well as you may be hitting anchor a bit lower with the new tab.....Left could be, your stringhand is a bit farther to the right, which would point the arrow to the right.

left: you could be just peeking to see how your arrow is flying differently with the tab,,, i noticed the difference with a tab vs. my glove right away,,, i shoot an Angel though.

I have a question about the shelf: what is it's purpose and does the thumb lay over the top, underneath or have nothing to do with the shelf. I got one to try based on this thread and like it, but am confused about the shelf.

I just bought a cavelier from 3 rivers.  I think I am going to like it.  Unfortunately I used the same size as my glove (medium) and it is to small.  With a 60" super shrew my third finger hangs out and gets sore.  I went to the cavelier archery site to order a larger one using the guide they have on their site.  I believe I will really like it when I get it all squared away.

The shelf is for an under the chin anchor. If you shoot anchored on the side of the face take the shelf off.

Thanks bowquiver. That was not apparent in the instructions that came with mine.
