Definately go with a new one... lots of great bows in the $500 and up range.

(Shush about the classifieds, somebody's got to buy the new ones so poor folk like me can shoot a good bow!  :)  )

For category 3, there are 2 choices I know about. A longbow with great craftsmanship is the Liberty, starting at $500, that includes shipping and other fees some charge extra for. And a Dave Beeler longbow in the $375 to $450 price range, but that does not include shipping. Hope this helps.
